Welcome…
Today, I met my mother's deeply religious fiancé for the first time. His response upon seeing me was to look me square in the eye and say, "You'll need to take out that nose stud or I'm afraid you'll not be welcome in our home." FML

Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Today, I flew home to visit my parents. We haven't seen each other in two years, I've gotten a few tattoos done since, and I knew they wouldn't approve, so I bought whole new outfits that covered everything and looked professional. When I got there, the first thing my mom says to me is, "Is that a nose ring!?" FML
Today, while having dinner with my girlfriend's very religious parents, her mother called me a heathen and said she'd convert me one day. She wasn't kidding. FML
Today, I mustered up the courage to visit my estranged mega fundamentalist father to hopefully mend our relationship. The first thing he did was insult me for not having a beard, and call my wife and daughters whores because they weren't wearing long skirts or dresses. FML
Today, my mom got drunk and started crying at my after-wedding party, after promising she'd behave herself. She thinks my husband is an awful person who'll drag me into a life of sin, all because he has a tattoo and an ear piercing. FML
Today, I met my boyfriend's mom for the first time. I introduced myself and went to shake her hand. She looked me up and down and said, "I don't shake hands with whores." FML
Today, my stepfather-to-be yelled at me, insisting I take my nose piercing out, because it will "ruin the wedding photos" since I'm a bridesmaid. It's a tiny diamante stud, no bigger than a small pinhead. He then went on a rant about how I need to respect his authority in the family. I'm 25. FML
Today, my fiancé's mother gave me a beautiful cross necklace to wear for my wedding. I'm Jewish. FML
Today, my mother, her fiancé, and I were having dinner together. My mother was joking that she wasn't sure she could hold him down, as he used to "get around." She turned to talk to the waiter and my future step-father looked me up and down and winked. FML
Today, I met my biological mother for the first time. I also found out from her husband that she has her nipples and nether regions pierced. FML
Today, I met my boyfriend's parents for the first time. His mom stared at me throughout dinner before finally blurting out, "I'm sorry, I can't get past the fact that you look just like his ex!" It turns out I do. FML

I don't see what your nose stud has to do with religion, this guy sounds like a bit of an ass!

It's important you establish dominance early in the relationship. Pick up your dinner/coffee tray, smash it into his face two or three times, by now he will probably be on the floor so you straddle him, put your hands around his throat, look HIM right in the eyes and say "I am your god now" until he gets it. Hes never going to like you anyway, at least this way he will keep his stupid opinions to himself.

Although it was unfair of him to ask, a nose stud is a small price to pay for your mother's happiness!

When you put it like that maybe. But the fact that this is the first thing he says to his future step-daughter... and to give such an awful punishment - basically implying she won't be family - not even to her Mum, if she doesn't comply... this suggests he will be controlling in other areas. I doubt he will rest with the nose stud. He sounds abusive.

If that is the first thing he says than that will be his standard for future relationship with you. First impressions count and the guy sounds like a tiny dick. Just try not to be an arse back, because that will hurt your mum. If she's down to earth enough she will see his personality after the luvved up feelings are gone :-)

i really hope hes saying that if you're moving in his house. Otherwise if its you're house, tell him, dont **** with you or you will beat his religious ass and throw him out... Do Not take any shit from people like that

I guess your not welcome then. Cuz you don't gotta change for no one.

Funny how 'deeply religious' so often translates to 'intolerant & unforgiving' - no actually it's not funny, it's sad.

Do you live with them? If not, just take the nose stud out when you go to visit and put it back in when you come home. It'll be a pain, but it'll keep the peace. If you do live with them, then it might be easier to take it out, let it heal up and get it re-done when you move out. It sucks that he's being such an ass, but it's better to lose a piercing than to get kicked out on the street.
