Today, I discovered that my ex-girlfriend, who I dated for 6 years, is getting engaged to my friend. The very same "friend" who's been encouraging me to break up with her for the past year. FML
Today, after waiting 3 months until my friend's wedding was done being celebrated, I announced my engagement. My newlywed friend bitched me out for "stealing" all of the attention and being selfish. FML
Today, my crazy ex-girlfriend legally changed her last name to mine. I'm getting married in a week. FML
Today, I broke up with my girlfriend for another girl. This other girl helped me break up with her so we could date. After it was all done, she promptly rejected me and in front of everyone, saying how much of a douche I was for leaving my girlfriend for another girl. FML
Today, I found out that my boyfriend of two years has a beautiful daughter. That's cool, except she's one year old. FML
Today, my boyfriend of 2 years told me he had feelings for someone else. He also told me he wanted to continue dating me until things progressed further with the other woman. FML
Today, my girlfriend broke up with me. It's OK, though, she says we can still go on the vacation I planned next month for our 3 year anniversary, just "as friends." The tickets are non-refundable. FML
Today, I got a text from my ex-boyfriend that said, "I love you." Thinking this meant he'd changed his mind about breaking up with me less than 24 hours before, I replied back excitedly. Turns out that was a text sent last weekend that didn't go through until now. What great timing. FML
Today, my boyfriend dumped me by getting his mum to message me on Facebook. I got the message while I was packing for an overseas trip to visit him. FML
Today, I broke up with my boyfriend. Feeling bad, I texted him a few hours later apologizing. He said it was fine and that he went ahead and picked up a girl from the mall. FML

So is he your ex of 5 years or your ex of 5 months? The fact that you called him your ex kinda implies that the relationship was over, but then you said you were just "on a break", but whats a break? Not seeing each other while still being exclusive with each orther or a time to explore other options? 5 months seems like a long time to be on a break...This seems like a complicated situation that you probably don't want to be a part of. It's probably best to move on.

“Taking a break” is the diplomatic way of saying “breaking up.”

Okay so I read it like this - OP and their ex were together for 5 years. They then "took a break" which has lasted 5 months. Ex got engaged during that break to someone. Ex probably wasn't interested in marrying OP, and was staying with them for lack of better options. That's why it was a "Break". Because if they couldn't find anyone better, they probably would have went back to OP.

Come on. A 5 months break is called "moving on". How could you expect him to be exclusive to you after almost half a year of not being together anymore?
