Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Today, I finally broke down and told my mom that I'd relapsed with my eating disorder. She told me to quit whining and eat a burger, because she didn't want to pay for another therapy session. FML
Today, I admitted to my parents that I have an eating disorder. Instead of trying to help, my mom stared at me and said, "Duh". FML
Today, I told my mom I was finally going on a diet. She let me know how proud she is of me fighting temptation, by making my favorite cookies and dinner. FML
Today, I told my mom that I'm bulimic and have been for a few years, and that I needed help. She responded by saying, "Well that's clearly not working for you. Why don't you try anorexia?" She then patted me on the head, smiled, and walked away. FML
Today, I told my mom I lost 30 pounds because of an eating disorder. She told me to keep up the good work. FML
Today, I felt sick to my stomach, so I told my mother I didn't want to eat dinner. She started accusing me of being anorexic, so I ate a little bit anyway to make her stop. I then threw up, only for her to take it as confirmation that I have an eating disorder. FML
Today, I decided I need help, so I confessed to my mother that I'm bulimic. After she looked it up online she started screaming at me for "Wasting food that I'm not paying for." FML
Today, after I skipped dessert for the third day in a row, my mom cornered me and accused me of being anorexic. I'm actually not far off being clinically obese and I'm just trying to diet, but nothing I say will convince her. She wants me to see a psychiatrist about a disorder I don't even have. FML
Today, after struggling with anorexia for months, I got food poisoning. FML
Today, I told my mom that I think I’m anorexic and she told me she didn’t care. When I asked why, in disbelief she replied, "Honey, you are 5’3 and over 350 lbs, at this point you NEED to be anorexic." FML

If someone has an eating disorder..how do you think they'll answer that no matter how thin they actually are?

nothanks, I don't know if you'll actually ever read this, but on the offshot that you do.... Stay strong. Eating disorders are an illness (despite what others may think). You did the right thing by going to your mom for support. I'm sorry she didn't support you. I went through the struggles of an eating disorder, too. I struggled with it for 2 years before finally seeking help. Now, 4 years later, I am finally to the point where I am moving on and living life without the eating disorder. Like I said, I don't know if you'll even see this, but if you do.....I saw that you are from Minnesota too. Park Nicolette has an amazing eating disorders treatment center called Melrose Institute. I strongly suggest that you give them a call. I had tried so many things and they were finally able to help me get better and move past my eating disorder. Stay strong, life will get better and you will beat your eating disorder.

you can't hide being fat. you can, however hide the fact that you never eat, or throw up right after. op obviously thinks she's fat, therefore won't eat anything, and her mom offering an ice cream proves she doesn't understand. that's why its fyl

82, i have had an eating disorder and am just coming out of it. i still have days when i restrict my eating, and i still count calories, but i do eat. but my parents have been really supportive, so were my friends, so i ust sort of got over it, i was in a very bad place for a while... bmi of 15, and im male. the profesional help didnt really help much, butmy friends' support realy got me through. i just hope you get over it soon, i just found out that a few 100 calories every now and then isnt going to make me fat, its the permanent changes you make to your eating habbits that do. jus take the view that you dont want to lose any more weight, and hopefully you'll be alright. your metabolism actually gets boosted if you eat, you feel better, you lok better (i was really thin and gaunt and white, my ands were always cold). now that i eat, i maintain a healthy, but still pretty low weight, and i have regained my body. (i do go to the gym every other day...) but tl;dr, stay strong, you will get over it, believe me.

Eating disorders aren't real. YDI for being a bitch.

#93 Just because you've never experienced one doesn't mean that they aren't real. Mental disorders are very real even though you can't "see" them.

Saying E.D's aren't real is the same as saying Schizophrenia isn't real, or Alzheimers. Do you believe that? It's actually been discovered that Eating Disorders are caused by (well, connected with) some chemical inbalance in the brain. So yes, it is just your thoughts, thinking you're fat, but it's also an actual, physical problem, something wrong in the brain.
