Today, while cleaning my son's room, I found an envelope labelled "PRIVATE AND CONFIDENTIAL" under his bed. I opened it, only to find it was a glitter bomb. I couldn't get it all cleaned off myself before he got home. He just said "HAH! Serves you right!" and went to his room smirking. FML

Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Same thing different taste
Today, whilst cleaning the living room, I heard snickering coming from my bedroom. My two nephews had found my "play cupboard" and were blowing up condoms like balloons. FML
Grossed out
Today, after threatening my son for weeks that if he didn't clean his room, I would, I went in, equipped with a garbage bag, ready to throw away everything I found, only to discover dozens of empty bottles, two partially empty pizza boxes, Taco Bell wrappers, and cockroaches. FML
Abandoned
Today, I found a baby in a cradle on my doorstep. I was shocked that someone would do this, so I picked it up and uncovered the baby. It was actually a rudimentary stink bomb that went off in my face when I uncovered it. FML
What have you done?
Today, my son dropped a firecracker in my flour storage bin, probably thinking the pop would make flour go everywhere. I guess he’s never heard of a dust explosion because what he actually did was set fire to the flour, causing such a violent shockwave it blew the kitchen window out of the wall. FML
Nice try, kiddo
Today, I came home from work and went into the bathroom. I saw a poo on the toilet lid, and thinking it was a trick toy that my son had got to trick me, I picked it up. It wasn't a toy. FML
Today, I had to clean up after the kid who discovered he could finger paint with his poo. FML
Toynado
Today, I came home from work and found that my son had taken every single one of his toys out and left them on the floor. Plus some goldfish crackers. FML
Oh shit
Today, I received a package labeled “Confidential.” Excited, I opened it in front of my coworkers, thinking it was a PR gift. It was the new toilet seat I'd mistakenly sent to my work address instead of my house. FML
Today, I went into my parents room to empty their wastebasket. Next to it and around their bed, I found tissues that were soaked in an unknown sticky substance. I had to pick them up. FML
Today, I was babysitting to make a few extra dollars. While changing one of the kid's diapers, I turned around to find the other kid gone. I turned back around frantically, only to get poop flung at my face. I guess I found him. FML

It's really hard to feel sorry for you here when you opened an envelope that wasn't yours. Especially one that said "private and confidential" as a last chance warning. Totally deserved it.

Unless you had reason to believe your son was going to harm himself/someone else, partake in some kind of illegal activity...then I can't think of a single way that this isn't a YDI.

No sympathy for you there. A fitting ending to you invading his privacy.

You shouldn't go snooping around in someone's personal belongings. You have no right to do so

I'd get him back somehow. Glitter bomb his favorite snack or something. Be creative! ?

I hope you're not a parent #117

YDI I hope your sons traps only become more elaborate to the point of exploding blue ink when you open his personal package. Stop snooping or your kid won't trust you.

Your son is hella cool, and YDI for not respecting his privacy.

If that was my letter, it would have been more explosion-ey. You deserve this. What gave you the right to open the letter? You're not his owner, so his private things aren't yours to touch.

Boundaries were set And you crossed the line Your son was testing your trust in him and you could have earned that trust, .... But instead the opportunity to earn his trust blew up in your face I think you are even

Funny as hell, but, if your parents are still cleaning your room you have no right to privacy.

As stated above, she was probably using cleaning as a euphemism for snooping :P

While I agree with the fact that kids don't have the "right" to privacy, an important part of having & raising kids is to teach them right & wrong & punish them only when they make a mistake. If the kid hasn't raised any red flags, they don't deserve to be treated like criminals. You want your kid to trust you & to know you have faith in them, treating them like children is not beneficial to either party.
