Today, while cleaning my son's room, I found an envelope labelled "PRIVATE AND CONFIDENTIAL" under his bed. I opened it, only to find it was a glitter bomb. I couldn't get it all cleaned off myself before he got home. He just said "HAH! Serves you right!" and went to his room smirking. FML

Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Same thing different taste
Today, whilst cleaning the living room, I heard snickering coming from my bedroom. My two nephews had found my "play cupboard" and were blowing up condoms like balloons. FML
Grossed out
Today, after threatening my son for weeks that if he didn't clean his room, I would, I went in, equipped with a garbage bag, ready to throw away everything I found, only to discover dozens of empty bottles, two partially empty pizza boxes, Taco Bell wrappers, and cockroaches. FML
Abandoned
Today, I found a baby in a cradle on my doorstep. I was shocked that someone would do this, so I picked it up and uncovered the baby. It was actually a rudimentary stink bomb that went off in my face when I uncovered it. FML
What have you done?
Today, my son dropped a firecracker in my flour storage bin, probably thinking the pop would make flour go everywhere. I guess he’s never heard of a dust explosion because what he actually did was set fire to the flour, causing such a violent shockwave it blew the kitchen window out of the wall. FML
Nice try, kiddo
Today, I came home from work and went into the bathroom. I saw a poo on the toilet lid, and thinking it was a trick toy that my son had got to trick me, I picked it up. It wasn't a toy. FML
Today, I had to clean up after the kid who discovered he could finger paint with his poo. FML
Toynado
Today, I came home from work and found that my son had taken every single one of his toys out and left them on the floor. Plus some goldfish crackers. FML
Oh shit
Today, I received a package labeled “Confidential.” Excited, I opened it in front of my coworkers, thinking it was a PR gift. It was the new toilet seat I'd mistakenly sent to my work address instead of my house. FML
Today, I went into my parents room to empty their wastebasket. Next to it and around their bed, I found tissues that were soaked in an unknown sticky substance. I had to pick them up. FML
Today, I was babysitting to make a few extra dollars. While changing one of the kid's diapers, I turned around to find the other kid gone. I turned back around frantically, only to get poop flung at my face. I guess I found him. FML

It's really hard to feel sorry for you here when you opened an envelope that wasn't yours. Especially one that said "private and confidential" as a last chance warning. Totally deserved it.

Wow it's sad to see some of the comments here.... "The parents have a right to invade their child's privacy whenever they please because they pay the bills"? No. Children are human beings, and every human being has a right to privacy. What do you expect the child to do? Start playing bills? With what money? Yes they are your children and they are in your care as you chose to have them, but that does in no way give you a right to disrespect them. I have always respected my parents. They never beat me, invaded my privacy or treated me as their property. They loved me and respected me. And what you give is what you get.

Totally deserved it. You do know your son is a person, right? Not just something you own? Just because you gave birth to him doesn't waive his right to privacy. Hope you learned a lesson.

Warning if u stop reading this you will die tonight. I'm Hannah and I'm 12 years old but I'm dead now. I had no friends. If you don't repost this on 20 pics you will die at exactly 11:59 pm DONT BELIVE ME? A guy named jack read this and laughed. Later that night I killed him by stabbing him to death. You don't believe me do you? A girl named Sandra posted it on 10 pics now she's 11 in a coma. A smart guy named Phil posts it on 29 pics and won the lottery 0=death 10=coma 20= something good will happen TICK TOXK TICK TOCK

My mum was a persistent snooper, even finding things hidden in places that were not even close to being "in plain sight" as she would claim. She even went so far as to open a package I was sending to someone else 'because it was on the table'. Barely speak to her now and I am okay with that.

I totally get this.

Reminds me of the time my mother searched for and read my private diary. Her excuse was that she wanted to see how I was coping after my father died, but it was really just to snoop. Because I was adopted, and my birth mother was an unmarried teen, she assumed I would turn into a '**** like her' and was on the lookout for anything to prove she was right. I was12 at the time. To this day, I can't keep a diary because I don't trust anyone to respect my privacy. YDI totally and I just wish I'd thought of something similar when I was young.

Instead of opening it yourself, you could have asked your son about it. YDI for not being able to ask your child about suspicious stuff in his room.

It is a child there is no such thing as private and confidential. Keep looking into things this is what makes you a good and caring parent.

No it makes your kid not trust you, and more likely to hide things than tell you.

#97: Has it occurred to you that the same sort of thinking taken in macro-scale is behind totalitarian regimes? Doesn't it bother you that you seem to advocate similar (if not lower) level of privacy to that of prisoners?

Keep in mind half the people commenting are children or adults still living with their parens

The fact you called children an it invalidates your argument entirely.

Actually 170, I'm an expecting mother living on my own with my fiancé and I very firmly believe that a child has a right to their own privacy. Of course, my child is my child and I will always be concerned for their safety and well-being. But I want my child to be able to come to me freely and if I feel the need to snoop on my son, then what does that say about my parenting? Obviously nothing good. A child is not property, a child is their own person and should be treated as such.
