When OP says "broke into" it could mean used without permission. Not literally locked. They might have separate groceries. Or break/broke meaning get/got. Let's Break/Get out the shot glasses. He Broke/Got into my nutmeg.

It's f'n nutmeg, it's probably cheaper than your salt and pepper (good thing he's not snorting those yet). Better lock up the baking soda, vinegar and red dye now that he's on drugs. He might become a maniac and make a paper mache volcano! Next WORLD DOMINATION!

I always have nutmeg. I meant non basic table salt and black pepper. OP does have a personal spice cabinet after all. And if his roommate is stealing whole nuts, well that would just be too funny (also the reason I never take nuts when another man offers even when I want some).

People can get high off from almost everything. Paints, lotion, candles, permit markers, white out, just to name a few.
