Today, I met my girlfriend’s parents for the first time. I wanted to break the ice, so I brought up a funny story… about my ex-girlfriend, without thinking. The room fell silent, and my girlfriend’s mom just stared at me. My girlfriend left the room in tears. FML
Today, my girlfriend broke up with me because she heard me say "love you" on the phone. I was talking to my mom. FML
Today, my girlfriend's mom pulled me aside and started telling me about how her daughter was extremely depressed and suicidal before she met me, and how happy her family is because of me. I was planning on breaking up with her within the next week. FML
Today, my mom asked me if I was crying because my boyfriend cheated on me with my best friend. That wasn't why I was crying. My mom knows things before I do. FML
Today, I was at a restaurant with my kids. I told my 13 year old about how the very first time she said she loved me. She was 2 and it was at this very restaurant. I told her the details and even started tearing up a little. She didn't even look up from her cell phone and said, "That's fab, ma." FML
Today, I overheard my girlfriend telling her friend, "Actually, it's a good thing she died, she was quite a bitch." She was talking about my mother. FML
Today, a friend of mine came to my house with tears in her eyes. I thought she was finally single so I could ask her out. Actually, her mother found out she was dating a girl, so she wants me to be her fake boyfriend as a cover-up. At least we're "dating" now. FML
Today, my girlfriend told me she wanted get to know my mom, so they went off and had a chat. After an hour, I noticed my girlfriend was gone and my mom was waiting for me. Apparently I've been dumped through my mother. FML
Today, my mom asked if I was seeing anyone. I launched into a description of my girlfriend, only for her to interrupt, saying that she meant a therapist, and the fact that I'd just made up a relationship was further proof that I needed one. I really do have a girlfriend. FML
Today, my mom showed my girlfriend a picture of me crying when I pooped in the bathtub. FML

Ya, it sounds to me like she was joking and made a funny comment. If she was serious then I'm a little surprised the mom cried. Being upset or mad maybe, but crying? And crying over "considering" dating you? I wonder what her reason for that was? Hopefully your girlfriend was just joking anyways.

Depending on how long you guys have known each other, how long you guys have been dating, and how long you guys will be together, her mother may warm up to you more! Try to talk to her, maybe take her out to lunch, and stay positive OP :)

I was going to say the same thing. The first time my (now) boyfriend came over my mother saw him walking up the lane, looked at me and said "you better not be dating him" he looked like a typical punk. Dreadlocks and eyeliner and black nail polish. But once she got to know him she really liked him, and now thinks he's the greatest thing. I'm sure everything will work out for OP too. She did say that was before you started dating, so she may have changed her mind already, and regardless, you still have the girl (:

FWIW, when I started dating my wife, her mother hated me. Now, she gets upset if my wife visits her without me! So, it can get better.
