Today, my family savagely mocked me to the point of tears, all for using "big", "fancy" words like "accommodations" and "hospitality". FML

Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Same thing different taste
Today, while home from college for the weekend, my sister started whining about how I keep using "big fancy college words" and making her feel bad. My sister is 27 and teaches elementary school. The word I used was "ludicrous." FML
Toxic people
Today, I went out with my parents and a family friend. After saying goodbye to the friend and as soon as the elevator doors shut, my parents started trash-talking the friend's looks, stature, choice of clothes, etc. Now I understand a lot about my education growing up. FML
People never learn
Today, I was made fun of at work by my mom and my supervisor. I work at a kids' anti-bullying camp. FML
Today, my friends and I were exchanging stories with one another. I barely got a few sentences in before they started mocking and viciously insulting me for saying "swaggered", claiming it comes from the slang term "swag", and that they never thought I was a "dumbass hipster". Really now? FML
Free speech
Today, I have a speech impediment that's recently become more noticeable. My entire family has decided that the best way to go about handling it is to mock me whenever I try to say something. FML
Diva
Today, I requested to have my own room at a hotel instead of sharing with everyone else, and I was called an inconsiderate diva. The reason is that after eating anything, my stomach makes such loud and disgusting noises that no one would be able to sleep, but I’m too embarrassed to say that. FML
Pretentious menus suck
Today, I went to a fancy restaurant and couldn't pronounce any of the menu items. FML
Ungrateful brat
Today, despite all I've sacrificed to stay home with my child, and operating a small business while they are in school, my child decided to make a punchline out of me and roasted me in front of the whole family because my husband paid for my car. FML
Magnifico
Today, making small talk with my coworkers, I said a restaurant I'd tried recently was "superb". They all gave me weird looks, and one said, "Someone's trying too hard to sound smart." Now I've got a rep as a pseudo-intellectual douchebag. FML
Today, I went to a restaurant with my friend, where my credit card got denied in front of everyone. The staff teased me and made me sit in the restaurant while my friend begged for money outside. FML

look at all the big fancy accomodations that you require in order to function. the hospitality is unfathomable.

Sometimes I use big words that I don't understand to sound photosynthesis.

I actually made this joke once at work... My coworkers didn't get it.

Eh, vocabulary skills are important but around the right people, if you use a bunch of more sophisticated words around people who wouldn't usually use those words you'll sound like a condescending asshole

Yeah so much for that Texan hospitality...

People like to discredit what they don't understand sometimes. Keep enlarging that diction of yours OP. *smiles*
Saluriel 12
You want to enlarge the OP's diction? Pervert.

You should gift them a dictionary.

I agree. Human nature tends to do that. You'd think we as western society would have grown past that. Not quite sure why you're getting downvoted, except maybe for the hashtag...?
tarlax 11
The hashtag and the "your", definitely.

They deserve a slap on face with a dictionary. There's no shame in your vocabulary game, OP.

Such is life in Texas
AggieMike77 12
Yeah, people in Texas are stupid... we have NASA, Texas Instruments, Dell Compiter, Raytheon (makers of fighter jets and other aircraft), Exxon (as well as other oil companies, and supply your dumb ass with the majority of your fuel), home of the most advance cardiovascular medicine in the world, etc., etc.. Dumb ass.

Was a joke based on a common stereotype but ok have fun,

I'm pretty sure that every single one of those companies imports talent from the rest of North America. :D

When you gain enough power and experience points, you can do whatever you want to them.
