Today, my family savagely mocked me to the point of tears, all for using "big", "fancy" words like "accommodations" and "hospitality". FML

Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Same thing different taste
Today, while home from college for the weekend, my sister started whining about how I keep using "big fancy college words" and making her feel bad. My sister is 27 and teaches elementary school. The word I used was "ludicrous." FML
Toxic people
Today, I went out with my parents and a family friend. After saying goodbye to the friend and as soon as the elevator doors shut, my parents started trash-talking the friend's looks, stature, choice of clothes, etc. Now I understand a lot about my education growing up. FML
People never learn
Today, I was made fun of at work by my mom and my supervisor. I work at a kids' anti-bullying camp. FML
Today, my friends and I were exchanging stories with one another. I barely got a few sentences in before they started mocking and viciously insulting me for saying "swaggered", claiming it comes from the slang term "swag", and that they never thought I was a "dumbass hipster". Really now? FML
Free speech
Today, I have a speech impediment that's recently become more noticeable. My entire family has decided that the best way to go about handling it is to mock me whenever I try to say something. FML
Diva
Today, I requested to have my own room at a hotel instead of sharing with everyone else, and I was called an inconsiderate diva. The reason is that after eating anything, my stomach makes such loud and disgusting noises that no one would be able to sleep, but I’m too embarrassed to say that. FML
Pretentious menus suck
Today, I went to a fancy restaurant and couldn't pronounce any of the menu items. FML
Ungrateful brat
Today, despite all I've sacrificed to stay home with my child, and operating a small business while they are in school, my child decided to make a punchline out of me and roasted me in front of the whole family because my husband paid for my car. FML
Magnifico
Today, making small talk with my coworkers, I said a restaurant I'd tried recently was "superb". They all gave me weird looks, and one said, "Someone's trying too hard to sound smart." Now I've got a rep as a pseudo-intellectual douchebag. FML
Today, I went to a restaurant with my friend, where my credit card got denied in front of everyone. The staff teased me and made me sit in the restaurant while my friend begged for money outside. FML

look at all the big fancy accomodations that you require in order to function. the hospitality is unfathomable.

I'm sorry. My abusive mother raised us all to believe that it was normal for families to belittle each other. I hope you can get out on your own & truly understand someday that real love isn't *mean*.

There is a reason why Trump wants to make America great again...clearly some parts or families arent winning with their education.

This post is about OP, not your political views

Maybe they would have preferred "stuff" for accommodations and " nice" for hospitality. Sad, I recommend you continue using more colorful words of our language.

Commend*

Sorry, I read it as "I recommend you for using the more colourful language". That's my bad. I'll take my down votes in stride.

Just point out how stupid they are

You should have hit them with "bruh that's grade 6 vocabulary and you try to mock me for knowing basic language at least I more than you idiomatic dumbasses"

My roommate calls me hoity toity for using "big words" like ambience, melodramatic, and ostentatious. We're both adults. People like her and your family probably feel insecure about not understanding the words, so they resort to insults to feel better about themselves.

you took the ap english test didn't you?

That's awful. Family is supposed to have your back when no one else does. Forget them, OP. They're just jealous because they couldn't keep up without a dictionary. Keep it up with that broad vocab. You don't have to limit your greatness just to fit into someone else's box.

I have to laugh (and roll my eyes a little) when FML's like this are posted. Not because there's anything wrong with the FML, but because suddenly the comments section becomes filled with people trying to prove that they too know "big words". The comments go from the usual puns and arguments to people digging up the biggest words that they can think of and trying to use them in their comments. It's always funny to see what everyone comes up with... some people are less successful than others.

Pretty funny coming from the person who doesn't know the difference between recommend and commend.

I know the difference, it was just a misread. If you look, I've apologized. The wording of the sentence threw me off.
