Today, my cat used his expensive new bed for the first time since he got it last month. He used it as a litter box. FML
Collection
Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Same thing different taste
Today, my cat decided that instead of using the brand-new scratching post I bought him, he was going to use my pant leg while I was asleep. FML
Cats gonna cat
Today, I got a new mattress delivered to my house. Didn’t have it on the frame for more than 5 minutes before my cat had already pissed on it. FML
Still better than the Cats movie
Today, my brother’s cat pissed on my brand new bed. He refuses to replace the mattress, and claims it wasn’t his cat. We only have one cat. FML
Messy bitches
Today, I bought my cats two new litter boxes in hopes that they would use them. They still prefer to pee on the clothes in my closet. FML
Today, my cat fell into the toilet, jumped out, and ran straight to hide in my bed. FML
Today, my cat was too overweight to get out of the litter box, so he gave up, and went to sleep. I had to pick him up out of his own waste and clean him up. FML
Clean me, humanoid
Today, I had to wash my cat. Twice. The first time was because he decided to roll over in the litter tray after using it. The second was the result of him pissing on the floor, then rolling in it right after I'd dried him from the first time. FML
Many such cases!
Today, I bought my dog an expensive orthopedic bed because I felt bad that he was getting older. He sniffed it for 5 seconds, walked away, and spent the night sleeping on the cardboard box it came in. Apparently, the box has better lumbar support. FML
Smells better when turned on
Today, my cat peed on my stove. There’s multiple clean litter-boxes that he could have used instead. FML
Today, I finally got myself settled into bed around 2 in the morning after a very long day. My cat started to snuggle with me when I smelled something disgusting. Turns out my cat sharted in my bed. FML

You need to explain to the cat that it's a bed and that it was expensive. They can't figure this shit out on their own.

Clean it well, then put some of his toys in it so it starts to smell like him. Maybe he'll take to it.

Well they can certainly figure out how to shit on their own.

Baby steps, OP! Just use discipline and then of course positive reinforcement when your cat uses each object correctly.

Never ever use discipline /punishment on a cat (or any animal) especially regarding bathroom issues. You'll only teach it to fear you and fear the act of going to the bathroom. You'll create a much worse problem. The only discipline should be on the owner to clean the litter box more often or check for constipation/urinary tract infection/kidney stone. Did you change litter brand or type, get new boxes or another pet or guests? If he knew better for months something has changed in his environment to cause his behavior to change. Or he just had an accident. Good luck figuring out the why OP and getting things back on track. Clean that bed throughly then do it again two or three times all over again. Try putting a piece of cloth like old blanket ,towel or one of your old t shirts with your scent on his usual sleeping spot, after a week or more move it to the new bed. If all else fails give him a cardboard box with a warm cozy blanket and call it done. (if you just can't stand the looks cover the outside in pretty paper or fabric. )

Hate me if you will but I tend to see the glass as half full.. Your cat could not have used it even as litter box. Doing his business in your shoes and laundry... At least he has been trained, error somewhat? Not a cat person so can't offer you much advice.

Sometimes cats do things like that if they have control issues, as can be seen with urinary tract infection or GI upset. Also possible he just doesn't understand the bed concept. Most cats I've seen don't really use beds.

Eight words in, and I already knew where this was headed. Pets and shit probably account for half of all FMLs.

See, now that right there is why I will never buy expensive things for my future pets. They just don't understand. If my dog wants to sleep anywhere, he can just sleep in my bed.

Ah cats, you can buy them the most expensive toys and beds but they will always prefer an empty box to sleep and old discarded milk rings for toys.

You could also try to move it to another place. Some cats like higher grounds, so maybe try to put it on a cupboard or window sill if it fits. You could also try to put an old shirt of yours in there so it smells familiar. Good luck!
