Don't do favors for strangers

Collection
Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Today, I started a new job that was highly recommended by a worker there. The same coworker that is now making my life a living hell. FML
Today, my best friend went to my boss and offered to do my job for half the pay. FML
Today, I'm pretty sure I destroyed a friendship irreparably. I was trying to do a nice thing, but it backfired in an awful way. I know it's my fault. I really wanted to be that person's friend. FML
Today, a woman who has a history of being horrible came into my work. I had to help her, so I was determined to be so nice that she couldn't possibly complain about me, as she has about several coworkers before. Apparently, I was too nice. Now she loves me and wants me to help her every time she comes in. FML
Today, while trying to quit my horrible job at a pizza place, I got so nervous that I accidentally offered to work double my usual hours for another month. FML
Today, I got a new job. This would've been a good thing, but apparently, the person I'm replacing was very well-liked around my workplace. All of my co-workers hate me now for replacing someone who I don't even know. FML
Today, my friend is acting like a martyr over not wanting to get a job and guilt tripping me for having one. I mean, I hate my job but I also like my ability to pay bills, unlike some apparently. FML
Today, I agreed to help a "friend" again, after only finding out yesterday she'd been lying to me. FML
Today, upon applying for a new job to leave my old crappy job I was informed by my new potential employer that he was unable to hire me because he is friends with my current boss. FML
Today, my best friend was fired from the place we both work at because she's a bad employee. After they fired her she said, "If I go, I'm taking my best friend with me." So they fired me too. I actually liked that job. FML

This is why you never recommend someone to your employer unless you know them and have worked with them. Obviously this was not the case and you and others are suffering the consequences. A friend of a friend is a stranger unless you know them yourself. And even a social friend you know is not the same as having worked with them. The only way to salvage this is to go to your boss and tell them the truth. Eventually it’s going to be apparent to them, but at least if you let them know then you might partially redeem yourself in your boss’s eyes. But be careful and tell no one else about this. Then, never, ever do this again.

Sorry OP I think you’ll just always be ****** when it comes to situations like this. Satan is a master of disguise. If Satan doesn’t want you to know Satan is Satan until Satan wants you to know, you won’t know until Satan wants you to know. Good luck, though. Try giving her burnt offerings or other sacrifices. All you can do at this point is get on Satan’s good side!

That doesn't always help. I knew my then best friend/roommate to be a hard worker. So knowing he needed a job and I needed his half the rent I got him an interview with my then boss. I told him to "dress up for it make sure you wear a button down" He shows up in a bowling shirt style shirt that has giant flaming dice on it. My boss was not happy with me. And my friend couldn't understand what he'd done wrong "I wore a button down like you said" My bad apparently I needed to specify that a shirt with flaming dice on it isn't what anyone would consider work appropriate.

doing favors is one thing a job recommendation is another the problem here is that you consider them equal

Even if it was a friend, you’d be surprised at how often a very good friend can be unbearable to work with, and not all amazing coworkers make good friends. Everyone should keep boundaries when it comes to their workplace imo, especially when it involves bringing in new people.
