A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Same thing different taste

Today, my boyfriend was introducing me to some business partners. As he was going along telling me their names, when he introduced me, he called me by my best friend's name. FML
Today, I found out my boyfriend's parents consider me more of a clingy friend than a girlfriend. We have been together over 5 years. FML

Freudian
Today, I was introducing my boyfriend to my parents for the first time. I meant to say, "Mom, Dad, this is Tom." Instead, I said, "Mom, Dad, this is Mom." My boyfriend is now jokingly reconsidering our relationship, and my parents won't stop making fun of me. FML
Nice to meet you… again
Today, my mother invited me to a nice restaurant to meet her boyfriend whom she's been seriously dating for a month. Imagine my surprise when she led me to a table and my boyfriend's father stood up, shocked, to greet me. Rather than being horrified, she is now planning double dates every week. FML
Sneaky
Today, after dating someone for a year and a half, upon meeting his mother for the first time he'd told me she has bad anxiety and that he’s going to introduce me as his friend, and the only reason I was meeting her was because she was selling her deceased husband's car. FML

What a bitch. Introduce her as your boyfriends great grandmother.

10 years? And you're still his girlfriend? I think that may be the reason she referred to you as his friend. He either sucks at commitment or this is a very open relationship. Still a mean thing to do, of course.

Are they forced to get married? No, idiot! They can be together without necessarily have this ring.

Watch a little TV from the 70's and early 80's. ALL boyfriends and girlfriends were introduced as "friends." If she grew up during that time then it's perfectly acceptable. Think of it this way, if you and your "boyfriend" break up and you bump into that person somewhere then you and he were just "friends." At least she didn't call you his "lady friend" which would imply that you might have been his mistress or just an easy woman at another point in time.

Don't let it get to you. Considering your b/f has been with you for 10 years, obviously hesitant feel the same way his mother does and that's all that really matters.

I know how frustrating this can be. However, mine comes from my mother calling my boyfriend my "little friend." This is her way of coping with the fact like I'm growing up and I'm going to be in a serious relationship that may lead to future commitments. My boyfriend and I have been together for quite some time, and addressing her is now just pointless. I've learned to let the relationship itself represent the true character of it rather than the labels that outside forces like to portray it to be.
