Today, my boyfriend randomly decided to let me know that he believes there's really no such thing as cheating, unless both partners explicitly agree that the relationship is monogamous. And no, he wouldn't agree that ours is. FML

Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Same thing different taste
Very suspicious activity
Today, my boyfriend says he is not cheating, because he has "not met them." He just follows half-naked women, likes only the most revealing pictures, and messages them in private. But yes, he is "not cheating." FML
Today, my now ex-boyfriend actually tried to justify his cheating by saying it doesn't count as cheating if the girl's bisexual. FML
Today, my girlfriend randomly confessed to basically having a "phobia" of monogamy. But don't worry, she defensively assured me she's never ever cheated on me, even though I never said she had, so I guess that's okay then. FML
Today, my boyfriend of two years told his friend that he decided a long time ago that he would never be faithful to a woman. I was sitting next to him. FML
What?
Today, I confronted my boyfriend, suspecting that he has been cheating on me during the past few months. He vehemently denied it. Then told me it would never happen again. What? FML
Today, I discovered that my fiancé and I had vastly different definitions of monogamy. Don't worry, he only did it when he was mad at me to remind him how much he loved me. I found out from my best friend. FML
Today, my boyfriend admitted that he thinks I'm cheating on him, with my brother. FML
Today, my boyfriend broke up with me, because he didn't trust himself not to cheat on me. What? FML
Today, I asked my boyfriend why he didn't believe in marriage. His response was, "I believe in marriage. Just not marriage with you." FML
Karma
Today, after three months of going back and forth between staying with my boyfriend and leaving him for someone else, I finally made the decision to go for the other guy. When I told him, he admitted to never seeing himself with me, as he "doesn't do cheaters." FML

Time to break up!

at least he's being honest that he doesn't want to be in a monogamous relationship. if your not ok with being in an open relationship then time to move on.

He may be right, but it only takes one person to agree that the other is a fuckwad and deserves to have a Louisville Slugger shoved up his ass. Maybe I'm overreacting.

That could be what he's into. We do know he's an asshole... Definitely don't want to give him the wrong impression.

FML tip #42: Anytime you're going to type the word "sarcasm," you're probably better off not to.

Okay. I understand that OP's views on the inherent monogamy of relationships are incompatible with his. Breaking the relationship (as it isu) up is a good course of action. Be that as it may... That does not give you the right to denigrate OP's boyfriend for the views he has. The views themselves don't hurt anyone. You don't actually have to cheat before you're open to an open relationship. Polyamorous people exist. Maybe OP's boyfriend is one of them.

This is true, but this is something he should have mentioned before entering a relationship. Just because he has certain views on what a relationship should be, it doesn't mean that his partner's will necessarily match.

#20 you are absolutely right, there is nothing wrong with an open relationship. How this shitsack decided, on his own, to make the relationship open after not mentioning it beforehand is wrong. There is no way to rationalize it, he's a dick who is toying with emotions.

But the views did hurt someone, because whether or not he cheated, it sounds like Op said "I want a monogamous relationship/thought we were exclusive" and he pretty much decided for her where it was going. It sounds like he wasn't willing to talk about it, and the two options is for Op to be unhappy and deal with it or for her to leave him.

56, the views did not hurt OP. The actions did.

Open relationships are absolutely okay. But this is not that. He was dishonest from the start and that's just not how it's done.
empbob 20
The first rule of any open or swingers relationship is 100% total honesty, that's obviously not what OP's BF has done...

what a dick...

hey, if everyone believed in monogamy, then there would be less cheating and divorce..not everyone believes the same
SmokinGuns 13
There are people that believe in monogamy, yet still cheat because they aren't "satisfied". I believe they're just cowards that are too afraid to break up.
lalaney 14
You must have meant that the opposite. Otherwise, you're pretty stupid. The vast majority of people who cheat actually believe in monogamy, but they fail at it, arguably because it's unreasonably rigid. If more people believed in NONMONOGAMY, I GUARANTEE you that less cheating would happen. That has nothing to do with the original post, though. That guy is clearly a dick justifying already cheating, not a poly person seeking honesty and understanding in a relationship.

To all of those saying OPs boyfriend isn't an ass you are wrong. This is stuff that gets said when you first decide to start dating, not after you've been dating for a while as the FML implies. Sure it isn't wrong to be in an open relationship, it is 100% wrong to decide to make your relationship open when your partner doesn't agree. If you want to play the field so badly just be a man and dump your partner, don't screw with their emotions.
