Today, my 12 year-old dog died. My boyfriend's attempts to comfort me involved him muttering, "At least she knows how to play dead now." FML

A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Today, after calling my boyfriend and telling him that my dog had just died, he hesitated and stuttered, "She was old, sick, and suffering. Babe, it was her time to go." He then informed me he had to go to his friend's house and hung up. My dog was two years-old, in great health, and was hit by a car. FML
Today, my dog of 10 years died suddenly. My husband’s response? “At least you don’t have to buy dog food anymore." FML
Today, I held my 14 year-old dog as he passed away. He made me a better person and I spent more time with him and loved him more than 99% of the population. I don't know how I'm going to do tomorrow when I dig his grave, and know he's not with me anymore. FML
Today, my girlfriend whom I'm crazy about broke up with me out of the blue. After pleading with her unsuccessfully, I called my mom for comfort and advice. She informed me that my dog had died. FML
Today, I was playing with my dog, teasing her, to cheer myself up after being dumped by my girlfriend. My dog bit me hard and I had to go to hospital. The dog has to be put down. FML
Today, my dog played dead just so I would leave him alone. FML
Today, I had to put my 12 year-old dog down because he had dementia. I was told I got to lay on the floor with him, and say when I was ready. The vet brought my dog out on a stretcher, had the vet tech put him in a choke-hold, and administered the drugs before I could speak. Now, I have PTSD and she has to undergo sensitivity training. FML
Today, I texted my girlfriend to tell her that we couldn't hang out because my dog died this morning and we were burying him. She replied that she wasn't going to get stood up by a stupid dog. She then broke up with me. FML
Today, I knew it was going to be a fun day when I woke up to find that my kids' new puppy had died in the night. FML
Today, I woke up, patted my dog and kissed his nose. He was dead. FML

Teach your boyfriend how to roll over by hitting him in the balls lol. That was insensitive of him though.

I'm sorry about your dog :( your boyfriend most likely is just really awkward with comforting people and was trying to make you feel better about it, but if he was seriously being a douche then you should rethink your relationship. Even though it's a dog, dogs feel like family to a lot of people and it's an insensitive thing to joke about.

I'm sorry for your loss. My dog passed away a few months ago. I have to say this did make me laugh, and maybe when you've had chance to grieve and focus on the good memories it will make you smile too.

i'm sure your boyfriend was just trying to be helpful, or maybe make a joke to try to lighten the situation. but either way, it would sound like an extremely insensitive comment at the time so i understand why you'd be upset over it. i'm so sorry about your dog, the loss of a pet is something that's never easy to cope with.
