Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Today, I walked outside to see my dog killing my cat. My spouse tried to cheer me up - "Hey, at least we don't have to buy cat food anymore!" FML
Today, my 12 year-old dog died. My boyfriend's attempts to comfort me involved him muttering, "At least she knows how to play dead now." FML
Today, my kids got me a dog to replace the dog who died last year. I don’t like dogs, our old dog was my deceased wife’s dog, and I never liked it. I cared for the dog until it died of old age and fully intended to never get another one. Now I have a hyperactive puppy destroying my house. FML
Today, after calling my boyfriend and telling him that my dog had just died, he hesitated and stuttered, "She was old, sick, and suffering. Babe, it was her time to go." He then informed me he had to go to his friend's house and hung up. My dog was two years-old, in great health, and was hit by a car. FML
Today, I decided to adopt a 11 year-old dog that had been in need of a home for several months. Two hours after I got him home, I discovered him dead in the backyard. FML
Today, my husband's cat died. He has resorted to calling me by her name to comfort himself. FML
Today, I heard that my crush’s dog had died. For some reason, my first instinct when I saw him was to say, “Oh my god, I heard that your dog died!” He started crying. FML
Today, I held my 14 year-old dog as he passed away. He made me a better person and I spent more time with him and loved him more than 99% of the population. I don't know how I'm going to do tomorrow when I dig his grave, and know he's not with me anymore. FML
Today, I took my 17 year-old dog, who had been my best friend my entire life right from when I was born, to be euthanised. I had booked in advance. The vet ambled in all spritely and cheerfully asked, "Just here for a checkup, aye?" FML
Today, my estranged husband told me he’s sad that he lost the dog. He didn’t mention anything about losing me, his wife. FML

I can’t imagine what you’re feeling. I have two dogs of my own, and I find great joy in choosing and buying specific dog food. I hope he snapped out of it, that would enrage me. While the wound is fresh, I’d go get another dog to help you cope.

I'd turn to him and say, "I won't have to pay for our dates anymore either, we're done. "

I mean people sometimes say stupid things to comfort someone or don’t think before they speak. Kind of stupid to ruin the relationship just cause of one commetn

I'd do the same thing honestly

And that's when you tell him, "Guess I don't have to buy or cook food for you anymore, either."

Sorry for your loss it's never easy to lose a fur baby 😢 and try not to hate your husband ,some people can't cope with loss of a loved one causing higher function parts of the brain to momentarily too shut down.

Sometimes people want to say something supportive, but they don't really know how. I was told well it is one less Christmas present to buy at my grandmother's funeral when I was 13. I don't think they wanted to hurt me, but lack social skills.

One time I posted on fb about how upset I was that the last of my sparkling gouramis had just died. A friend commented 'When life gives you dead fish, make fish sticks!' I had to tell him that, while I understand the desire to use levity to ease a bad situation, and often do so myself, it was much too soon for me to do that in this case.
