Today, multiple people admired my elaborate face paint. This happens every Halloween, at least every Halloween since I got badly burnt in a car accident. FML

Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Same thing different taste
That'll look good in the morning
Today, my daughter and I went to the carnival and had our faces painted. When we returned home hours later, I realized I have a deep sunburn all around my face, except for the skin under the paint in the shape of a gecko. FML
Today, it's Halloween. I get bullied every day and this was no exception, but this time I got beat up so hard I bled. Everyone thought it was part of my costume. FML
Halloween freakout
Today, I went to my friend's costume party dressed as Michael Myers. My costume must've been too conspicuous because it drew violent attention. I'm still sore from the pushing, tackling, tripping, falling and body shots. FML
It's not a phase, mom!
Today, I woke up to see that I had two black eyes from a cheerleading stunt gone wrong yesterday. I decided to curl my hair to distract from them. While curling my hair I accidentally burned my cheek. I now have two black eyes and a huge burn on my cheek. My extended family is coming tomorrow. FML
It's lit
Today, after spending 2 years growing out my hair, rubbing in oils to make it strong and healthy so I could shave it off and donate to a cancer charity to make wigs, I had a mishap at work with a car's cracked petrol tank. I now have 2nd degree facial burns and like 90% of the hair is burned away. FML
Rave on
Today, at a wild party, I cracked open a few glowsticks and drew patterns on my face and arms with the glowing liquid, then started dancing, hoping to impress some hotties. I was tearing it up until my skin started to burn, really bad. I ended up running out screaming and calling 911. FML
Today, I was complimented for having amazingly lifelike warts as part of my witch costume, and was asked how I achieved the effect so well. I didn't have the heart to admit they were just my pimples under green makeup. FML
Today, I decided to put on my Halloween make-up to be sure that I could and that it would look nice. I was satisfied with my results, and went to wash it off. Everything came off fine, except for the eye liner and eye shadow. It's bright purple. I'm a man. Halloween isn't until Sunday. FML
Today, I didn't put any makeup on my acne-ridden and newly sun-burnt face. Today was also the first time I've ever run into my crush outside of work, all while trying to parallel park in a car that hasn't been washed in 6 months. I hit the car behind me. FML
Today, at a science-fiction convention, a woman came up to me and told me that my white face paint was a mess, my contacts looked cheap, and my costume was an all-round failure. I wasn't wearing a costume, I'm an albino. FML

That has got to be the worst fml I've read. I'm sorry about that.

It's unfortunate that you are forced to remember the accident's effect on you every Halloween. If you're a glass-half-full type of person, I'd suggest that you enter costume contests, to try and make the best of your situation. :)

People say the dumbest stuff sometimes... Sorry, OP.

Just tell them you like turtles.

Or trains.

Why is that a dumb thing to ask? Any other time of the year sure but at Halloween I think that's the expected response. It's unfortunate but I don't think it's other people's fault for not guessing it might be real.

Awh I'm sorry!

It depends on where he lives. My question would be whether or not he sees the same people all the other days, so they should recognize him and not make that mistake. If he lives/works in a city, then I can see that happening. In a small town, however, one would expect that he sees the same people day-in and day-out.

59 - Wikipedia says Kingston upon Hull (OPs city) has a population density of 9,000 per square mile. I'd say that's a decently sized city (my town doesn't have 9,000 people total, and I still see a crapload of complete strangers everyday).

I'm pretty sure he wasn't asked by people who already know him...'facial burns from a car crash' isn't exactly something friends/acquaintances tend to forget...

Well, It's Halloween so you can't blame them. But this FML is awful. It's not even funny, like I feel really bad for OP. I'm sorry about your car accident and I know how much worse it is to have it pointed out like that. Try wearing a mask on Halloween so people don't mistake your face for an "elaborate face paint".

That's unfortunate, but at least you don't have to buy costume masks. And you probably have the best costume out there anyways.

nothing is so bad as not to be good for something

This is not encouraging

And if he DOESN'T want to be a burn victim for Halloween every year?
madskittlesftw 5
Lol dammnnnn I didn't realize how stupid I sounded, was in class and rushing. Sorry guys for taking up number 2 spot.
Roevera 14
The one day a year, OP doesn't need to purchase a mask, definitely doesn't make up for the lifetime of being a burn victim.

I think that's a little hurtful, don't you think?

Some people can be asses. But at least you can use it to your advantage!!!! Make the best of it!
loloalltheway 23
They didn't mean to be asses, can you blame them? It's Halloween...
EagorLuvsBigFoot 8
^ true, but in most cases you can kind of tell when a person is severely burned or wearing face paint
salvorican 24
Well people can use liquid latex and a few other things to replicate it easily... And then face paint/make up over the latex. It's not always that easy to tell if it's real or not.

Yeah this one isn't even funny, just makes you feel bad for OP. I'm sorry OP.

Seriously, it's sad

Every Halloween, you should dress as Zuko. Then you really do have the best damn costume.
KnnNike 2
Agreed. This has to be the truest "FML" I've ever read.

You know what they say about assume..... Except in this case, there's only one ass in the room.

When you assume you make an ass out of you and me

im sorry OP! tell them all to shove their "compliments" up their ass
stoptrying 9
Yes, tell people trying to be nice to shove it up their ass. That'll get you far.
fuzz97 23
Because acting like an asshole is the proper response to a compliment, amirite??
beannlove 7
im sure you wouldnt appreciate it if you were badly burnt and people kept saying "cool face paint" when its not.

Can you blame them...I mean it is that time of year
nowayisthisreal 4
Yes. Yes, I can.

Make the best of it OP. I have rheumatoid arthritis and it tends to jack up my knee and makes me limp. But instead of being sad about it I choose to be a zombie or something creepy for Halloween. I look like I'm in character and it perfects the costume. Don't let your problems bring you down :)

OP shouldn't need to hide it. They are just creepers.
unknown_user5566 27
13- That's actually a really cool idea. Kudos to you for turning your health issues into something fun. :) 23- How are they creepers?
TheDrifter 24
You don't hide it, you accentuate it, make it part of your costume and it will be the most realistic costume in the place.
skittyskatbrat 19
Total agreement. Dress as a firefighter, and go win a prize somewhere for Best Costume! This sucks...but it's also the one day a year where your scars can be a plus. Don't miss the chance.
Pufferfish78 5
Who the hell would say he deserved it? Crazy!

Sometimes I will miss where I click on something and accidentally vote one way or the other. Maybe this happened for 54 people?
floon_fml 13
Still think so at 1100 ppl?? Some people just do it because they can. Some people are just plain rude.
