Today, I was awakened by a small scary dark figure approaching me while making creepy noises. I screamed, kicked it away, and buried my face under my pillow. Later, after braving up, I turned on the lights. It was my sick 3-year-old niece, now dazed and coughing blood. FML

Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Same thing different taste
Spooked
Today, I was trying to sleep when I saw a head looming from the darkness with no eyes and a mouth open like a silent scream. I just froze and pissed myself. It was my daughter wanting to cuddle with us. Alas, the bed was wet, so she got put back in her bed, while we had to share the sofa downstairs. FML
Freakout
Today, I woke up to a blood-curdling scream from the bathroom. I jumped out of bed in panic and rushed into the bathroom, only to see my sister limping around in the nude. She'd just jumped out of the shower because someone had flushed the toilet downstairs. FML
Sleep demon
Today, my 7-year-old sister had a nightmare, so I let her sleep in my bed. I woke up to her punching me in the face and giving me a black eye. Apparently, she not only screams when she's having a nightmare, she also "gives the bad guy a taste of his own medicine." FML
Spooked
Today, my alarm went off at 6:30am. I woke up disorientated, as usual. I looked up and saw a dark, mysterious figure entering my room. Still half asleep, I screamed and dived under my covers. The dark, mysterious figure was my mom. I'm a 21 year-old guy. FML
Today, I was watching my 3-year-old sister play in the bathtub. She started screaming at her toys, saying "You're staying under the water until you DIE!" She then looked at me and cackled. I share a room with this demon child. FML
Today, my little sister was scared to sleep alone, so my parents made her sleep in bed with me. I barely slept, due to the utter terror of waking up to her chanting into my ear in a low whisper, "This is where you die, this is where you die..." FML
Today, after staying up all night at my friend's house, I woke up to something I couldn't identify on my cheek, so I slapped it away. When I heard crying, I opened my eyes and realized it was my friend's three year old sister who was trying to be sweet by kissing me on the cheek. FML
React content
Today, I was taking a nap. Apparently, my two year old daughter decided to crawl on top of the covers on my bed because she was scared since there was a thunderstorm. I thought she was one of our cats so I kicked her off. She hit the wall. FML
Spooked
Today, I woke up in the middle of the night to a figure holding a knife above me. After I screamed in terror, the figure burst into laughter. It was my mom. She did this as payback for me not washing the dishes last night after making food. FML
Beware!
Today, my son told me he was afraid of monsters under his bed. When I poked my head under to show him nothing was there, the family cat sprang out and clawed me in the face. Now I have a gash on my chin, and my son refuses to go anywhere near his bed. FML

Words can't describe how this story makes me feel. I will say this however, I think you need some very serious psychiatric help.

You know, most people would have turned the light on first. And most people also remember when they're in a house with other people, even when they've fallen asleep in the meantime. So I'm sort of wondering why your first instinct wasn't "It's probably (niece's name)", and instead you went with "Ah! Chucky! ******* die!", then kicked the poor kid. This isn't an FML for you, or even a YDI. I just feel really bad for your niece.

You made a very questionable decision to post this

You ought to take her to McDonald’s because evidently, that fixes everything. Get her a Slappy Meal?

It’s absolutely a YDI

Not to defend the actions and all of OP, but has it occured to any of you that upon waking up from a deep sleep, and your brain hasn't gotten a chance to truly comprehend being awake, it's dark, and you see something unrecognizable with abnormal noises coming for you, you're not going to at least get a slight panic rush? No, OP shouldn't have kicked the kid, but not everyone is instantly awake and focused upon waking from any kind of sleep.

Yeah, I would’ve done the same thing. My initial first reaction whenever something sneaks up on me is kick. My brain just does it independent of actual thought.

OMG. That's soooo something I would do! 😆 I never have kids around me, I'd totally forget there's one and freak out!

These comments are overly harsh. It was an accident; she was startled awake by unnatural sounds and movements that she wasn't used to, and she reacted. She probably already feels horrible enough about it. Calm down guys.

A toddler's sounds now are unnatural? Ok...

“Creepy noises” would be considered unnatural yes
