Today, it was snowing but I had to let my dog out, so I picked him up and carried him outside. I slipped, landed on him and ended up breaking his leg. FML

Halloween

A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.

Same thing different taste

Today I'm a dog, descendent of the mighty wolf that lives in wintery forests, a relative of the husks, the famous sled-dogs of the snowy northern lands. My owner thought I couldn't handle a bit of snow and decided to carry me to my toilet-spot. He slipped, fell on me and broke my leg. FML

That's awful, hope he has a speedy recovery.

Yes because your dog couldn't walk on his own and now he really can't walk on his own thanks to you.

More like fhl

At least it wasn't a smaller breed. Could've killed him.

F the dog's life, not yours

Aw that sucks. :( I always feel terrible every time my dog makes her way under my feet, I can't imagine how this feels. I hope he recovers quick and gets a big bag of treats! :)

I bet that dog still loves you more than anybody else in the world

For people saying that dogs can handle snow, while that is true for some breeds (i.e Great Pyrenees, St. Bernard, Newfoundlands, ect) other breeds like short-haired Chihuahuas, Chinese Cresteds, Whippets, (miniature/Italian) Greyhounds, Saluki, Pitbulls, ect, are very intolerant of cold weather. Something that sound be kept in mind is that the dogs we have today have been both domesticated, and selectively bred for hundreds of years for their looks, in many cases during the breeding process the last thing on their mind was weather tolerance. I have a short-haired Chihuahua, and after a couple minutes in the snow he'll begin to yelp in pain because it's too cold on his paws. -Not to mention, some dogs have medical issues such as cataracts (which would make it difficult to see or find its way back into the house), or arthritis (cold could make it difficult/painful to walk). So OP's acts are completely justified, and for people saying "Why would you let him outside in the first place?" or saying it's OP's fault for not being more careful, first of all, like tons of dogs around the world (regardless of size), OP's dog is probably trained to go outside to do its business, and unless it's -30 out, making exceptions for going inside the house could lead to future issues and perhaps retraining the dog. Taking a dog out for a minute or so, in order to release the contents of its bladder does absolutely no harm, paws can always be warmed up when they're back inside!. Second; ever heard of black ice? You can't exactly see that shit, especially if it's covered in a layer of snow, and anyone that has ever slipped on black ice should know it's very difficult to regain balance whilst still on it. Sorry about your pup OP, hope the leg heals properly and doesn't lead to future issues. Either way, accidents happen, and it's not like you knew what the outcome was going to be, if your dog has no health issues, and is still somewhat young the leg will most likely recover well, also, dogs have a very high pain tolerance, so don't beat yourself up too much. ^.^

“Dogs are the best bro” has to be coddled like a toddler every 2 hours cuz it has to go potty.
