Today, it's my birthday. My parents, with whom I live, told me that they didn't get me anything, but instead they said they would knock off a bit of the housekeeping I owe them. FML

Today, it's my birthday. I went downstairs expecting birthday greetings from my parents. Instead, they just sat on the couch saying nothing. Thinking they forgot, I casually reminded them. My mom scoffed and said, "Go do the dishes." FML
Today, it's my sixteenth birthday. The only gift I got was a bill from my parents. Apparently, the rent is due on the 1st. FML
Today, my parents forgot it was my birthday. They ordered me to scrub the common bathroom, and when I asked if they'd remembered, my dad's reaction was, "Oh! Really?" My mom's was, "I thought that it was next week." What lovely parents I have. FML
Today, I told my family that for my birthday I didn’t want to do any chores and just wanted the house cleaned. What they heard was mom won’t do chores today so let’s leave them all for her tomorrow. I didn’t even have a clean mug for coffee this morning. FML

Today, it was my birthday. My family usually gives me a financial gift, but didn't this time and said nothing about it. I cooked my own birthday dinner without help, then washed everyone's dishes. I got my own cake and ate it alone because they were too busy getting drunk. Nobody bothered to sing Happy Birthday either. FML

Today, it's my birthday. My father didn't get me a birthday present or do anything for me, and acted as though he only came to visit because it was expected. Yet when it was his birthday a couple months ago, he expected me to take him out and pay for it FML
Today, it was my birthday. I had an appointment at the dentist and went to do some shopping after that. A while after I got home, I met my dad and he just started complaining that I didn't spend any time with them on my birthday. When I tried to explain to him, he just got angry at me and started yelling. FML
Today, I got a birthday card from my parents. It was my sister's from earlier in the year. They scratched out her name and wrote mine underneath. FML

OP might not even be 18, and her parents are kind of assholes. I know you are suppose to do chores, but not even a card or like a candle or some shit? xD Like damn, show your child you care enough to put a little effort. Not even making OP breakfast in bed or something? "Hey, i'm not going to do anything special or different for your birthday, i'm just going to give you less work to do and pretend like it's the best gift ever."

all these comments... OP is not spoilt or ungrateful, you all had ****** up parents. being kicked out at 18 is absolutely not okay, not having to do chores as a gift is bullshit. To all parents out there, you decided to have kids. that's not a contract till they're 18, it's for life. you are responsible for the life you create, and there is no 'done'. children are not property and should not have to be grateful for being alive, they had no choice. And if you receive a gift every year for your birthday and suddenly you don't.... wouldn't you be pissed off? that's a shitty thing to do.
