Today, in front of family and friends, as I got down on one knee, my girlfriend fainted. Her father, a lawyer, rushed over and said, "Anything she says for the next 72 hours is not legally binding" and whisked her away. FML

I have a vision of a Phoenix Wright themed wedding... may have something to do with the fact I was up all night replaying the games.

What a douche bag move of him! Well as long as the daughter loves you, it doesn't matter what the dad thinks.

didn't u get his blessings before you asked her??

No one does that these days which is a shame. I know a lot of parents would love that. I also know a lot of parents who would say no.. I guess that's why no one asks!

My fiancé did :)

I was weeks away from asking my exs dad before she cheated on me. lifes a bitch but I think the big guy was just looking out

I know my dad would love it if a guy asked for his blessing.. It'd give him a chance to break out his 'I've got a shotgun and a basement' speech :)

the guy who askes my dad for permission is the guy who gets a no from me. my father does not own me so no there is nothing respectful about it.

damn..........that's bogus. XD

She "fainted" to get out of answering. Nice save dad!

haha I was thinking the same thing

that's why I hate lawyers, and this one is no exception what a tool!

She fainted on purpose. Nah she was probably just really happy!

If the two of you do decide to go through with the wedding, I suggest you elope.

ah, the good old-fashioned buzzkill. and, of course, that lawyer-in-law wouldn't help either. >

Ha, most people don't need a lawyer unless they divorce. You're having one right from engagement. Good luck with that :P PS - a marriage proposal doesn't constitute a legally binding contract. Only marriage does that ;)

Just as long as OP remembers NOT to sign a pre-nup!! If her dad is a lawyer AND hates OP he's gonna make sure OP gets NOTHING if there's a divorce..
