Today, my sister is nursing an injured cat back to health in our home because she accidentally hit it with her car. Now I can't decide which is contributing more to my insomnia: the incessant meowing, or the constant itching because our house is infested with fleas. FML

Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Today, the abandoned cat that I took in for the night and during bad weather seems to have spread fleas around my house. They're everywhere. FML
Today, my incredibly needy rescue cat - who knows she doesn't get to go into my bedroom at night - decided that she needed to wail and scratch the bedroom door from midnight until 5 a.m. Now that I'm awake, she's ignoring me because she knows I'm mad at her. FML
Today, my neighbor brought home a box of kittens he found in the park. Instead of calling animal control, he decided to keep them. Besides the incessant meowing throughout the day and night, a massive horde of fleas decided to migrate through his light sockets and into my nice clean apartment. FML
Today, I'm covered in scratches because a feral cat found its way under the house and tore apart the A/C duct to climb its way into my room in the middle of the night. After 30 minutes of chasing it, I got rid of it, but my room now smells like cat piss and I'm applying Neosporin to places I should never have to. FML
Today, my cat was incessantly meowing trying to get me to wake up and feed him. Because it was 6 a.m., and I'd hardly slept at all last night, my brain decided that the best solution to get him to shut up would be to hug him. The result was a normally docile and lazy cat giving me a nasty scratch next to my left eye. FML
Today, I took my wife's cat to the vet for her yearly check up. I'm finishing the day at the hospital with multiple bite wounds and a deep gash in my leg. My wife chose to comfort her cat instead. FML
Today, I went to the doctor for an infection from where a cat bit me while I was sleeping. Where that cat came from and how it got into my bedroom I will never know. FML
Today, like every other day for the past two weeks, the strange cat that has adopted me inexplicably made its way into my house and curled up next to my head while I slept. I'm horribly allergic. FML
Today, I accidentally stepped on my cat's paw and she let out a deafening screech of pain. After treating her like a queen for the rest of the day as an apology, I accidentally kicked her in the dark, sending her flying up against the wall. I feel as though I should sleep with one eye open tonight. FML
Today, I didn't realize my cat was sleeping in the room with me until she decided to jump on me in the middle of the night, resulting in a critical hit to my groin. FML

Is it really too hard to pick up some Advantage or Revolution and dose the cat? As for the house, vacuum EVERTHING and chuck the bag in the garbage outside when you're done. Buy a premise spray and don't forget to treat the baseboards, fleas love to hide there. Treat it like a lice infestation and wash everything you can in warm water if possible. If you think you're itching, imagine how the cat feels. It's probably losing fur and becoming anemic as you complain.

Shelters are often overrun with animals, and the ones that need medical care or extra attention like this one can't be taken care of properly since most shelters don't have the funding or volunteers. And no one wants to adopt a sick animal, so she would most likely be euthanized (unless it's a no-kill shelter, which those are often full and you can't leave an animal there).

if this cat has/had an owner, i doubt the owner took good care of it if the cat ended up outside to be hit by a car, and that it has fleas. so the cat is in better hands not with it's owner. to the OP - i feel sorry for you. your sister should've taken the cat to a vet or animal hospital where they can keep the cat and take better care of it. most people who attempt to "nurse" sick animals back to health end up with a dead animal anyway.
