Today, I went to the orthodontist, and found out when I was supposed to get my braces off. His exact words, "You'll get them off around Christmas... but we're not sure what year." FML

Today, I got a date for Valentine's Day. The date is with my orthodontist; he's going to tighten my braces. FML
Today, I went to see my orthodontist. He informed me that I have an underbite and I will probably need braces again. I just had them taken off last year, after five and a half years of oral hell. FML
Today, I arrived 10 minutes early to my orthodontist's office to get my braces off. It turns out my appointment was actually one hour earlier, and now the next available appointment is in four weeks. FML
Today, I went to my orthodontist where I was informed that I'll going to the prom, to my brother's wedding, and maybe to university with braces in my mouth. FML
Today, I got my braces off. I also got my tongue pierced. Both by my orthodontist. FML
Today, I got my braces checked by another orthodontist since I've had them for years and my teeth never got the way they should be. After 8 years and 27 x-ray exams, my orthodontist didn't do much except loosen the root of the tooth to the point where I can move it. FML
Today, I got my braces on. When we got in the car my dad looked over and said "well at least we dont have to worry about boys for the next two years." FML
Today, I have an orthodontist's appointment, and I told my best friend that I was going to get my teeth fixed. She replied, "Wow, thanks. Your smile's really awful to have to look at." FML
Today, I went to the orthodontist's to get my braces tightened, and I chose baby blue bands. Turns out they make my teeth look extremely yellow. Only a month and a half to go. FML
Today, I found out that instead of having four wisdom teeth, I have eight. They all have to be removed as soon as possible, which happens to be over the Christmas break. I get to spend my whole vacation in excruciating pain and a swollen face to boot. FML

Unfortunately not everyone is a candidate for Invisalign, otherwise I wouldn't be spending 3 and a half years with my train tracks :/

But if they're already wearing metal braces, why would they take them off just to get a different kind of braces? That would be unnecessarily expensive.

The doctor was actually being honest. Braces take time to fix your teeth, some longer than others depending on the condition of your teeth. It's worth the wait though.

I was looking at it like this: She will get them off around this Christmas but that they weren't sure if it was this year (2015) or next year (2016) because January 1st is around Christmas but technically next "year". Idk, I thought it was just a little technicality joke by the orthodontist... Good luck either way!

It could be worse, I had to take my braces off with a pair of pliers b/c we lost our health insurance. I still have glue stuck to my teeth from it. ^n^. It makes my teeth look more yellow.

For someone going paycheck to paycheck with basic living expenses 200+ dollars for an ortho appointment and brace removal isnt exactly practical. That being said, whatever dentist put them on is pretty shitty, as I've seen similar things happen and the dentist always made up a payment plan, did it heavily discounted, or did /something/ so the person wasnt stuck with braces on their teeth.

They used pliers at the dentists office to get mine off. Only difference is that they gave me a nice cleaning afterwards. I'm shocked they didn't give you a payment plan ahead of time like above stated.

It's a process and I'm not saying OP does this, but some people don't always care for their braces the way they should or don't wear their rubber bands. That can drag out how long you have braces and make it more difficult for the orthodontist to estimate how long you'll have them.

I got invisaligns a couple years ago. My orthodontist told me to keep them on if I wanted to perform oral because the things that were attached to my teeth were sharp. so. lol idk.

pretty typical doctor humour... either that or they ask you a question when the have both their hands and a bunch of instruments in your mouth! Hang in there, OP. Better get through this now than later on as an adult.
