Today, I went to the Apple store to try and figure out what's going on with my iPhone. After an hour of speaking to three different geniuses and waiting around, their solution was to "Google it." FML

Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Same thing different taste
Error!
Today, I called my cell phone tech support to help with my Samsung device. They sent me contact info for Apple support. FML
Today, I took my iPod to Walmart to replace the battery. They tell me to call Apple. I go home again and call Apple. They tell me to call Walmart. I call Walmart. They tell me to bring it in. FML
Hacked
Today, at the Apple Store, the crew, security, manager, technician, and fellow customers alike, never bothered covering up to laugh at me when I went there to have my phone fixed. Someone somehow hacked my iPhone, and when I use the Face ID, it makes a bloodcurdling scream of fear in full volume, then shuts down. FML
Today, my dad and I had a yelling match about me "lying", because I was unable to contact iTunes support without a phone number. To prove a point, he went online to find the phone number. It's been an hour and he's still searching for the number. I can't leave the table until he has found it. FML
Today, I waited 45 minutes at the Apple Store for my grandpa to very loudly ask why PornHub wasn't loading on his computer. FML
Today, I got a new phone. Only after berating the Sprint employee and Apple support desk because I could not call, text, or access the Internet did I find out that I didn't need to buy a new phone. It was just on airplane mode. FML
Today, I've spent far too long on hold to Apple customer support. Unfortunately the only thing to come from it is I now have "Call me maybe" stuck in my head. FML
Today, my iPhone got back from being fixed. When I opened the box there was a note attached to my phone that said, "All you had to do was turn it on." FML
Genius
Today, I was on the phone with tech support for over an hour, getting increasingly frustrated. After finally fixing the issue, I sarcastically said, "Thanks for nothing, genius," thinking I'd hung up the call. Turns out, I hadn’t. The tech guy coolly replied, "You’re welcome, genius." FML
Today, I stood in line for one hour to get a new phone. It then took me 2 minutes to drop it and shatter the screen, and 2 seconds for the employee to look at, laugh, and tell me, "That Sucks." FML

Perhaps they're not really Apple Geniuses, but rather the meme kind.

Interesting, since google and apple are now rival companies. Anyway I hope you figure it out Op

I guess this is one of those times where you can either see that as good advice or bad.. But hell, Google surely knows everything.

Google knows everything, even if it's wrong, it knows.

Maybe you should get the dog from the other fml to fix it

mpsteve: By jumping on the table and freaking out? Sorry, we only need 1 Tom Cruise on this planet.

Apple removed google maps and YouTube from iOS 6, I just heard they are searching the geniuses using Tom Tom maps to sack them. Still searching....

Anyone who walks into an Apple store and expects the $14/hr high school kid to be an actual "genius" is just as much of a "genius".

It's fairly easy to diagnose problems with google and youtube. It's probably more reliable as well.

This reminds me of the episode of southpark lmao, the apple geniuses and their holy ritual xD

Incoming apple vs google comment. Please keep the debate in this replies to my comment I know I personnaly do not want to see a million individual comments about it.
spaboolly 26
Prevent Apple vs. Google comments by suggesting that people post Apple vs. Google comments in reply to the second post so it's practically the first thing they see on the page.... Do you work at the Apple store? Because you sound like a real genius.
lilhellian 27
11 I want them to post it here instead of making a whole new thing, least if people read the title to mine and do not want to read them. They can avoid it.
lilhellian 27
Alan I honestly don't mean to sound like that. I just personnaly thought it would be easier this way. I'm sorry.

I didn't even know there was an apple vs. google war ? I thought it was google vs. bing?
lilhellian 27
Ios vs droid pretty much.
BisFitty 7
96 just because you blame it on auto correct doesnt make you less wrong, you should have been intelligent enough to see that it was wrong. Also, your pic is a DOG, stupid meme pic writhing wouldn't change that fact.

What else were they gonna say? Bing it? Please.
oj101 33
#21 reminds me of when Microsoft tried to market Bing by paying the cast of Gossip Girl to say 'Bing It!' as opposed to 'Google It' which received quite a lot of backlash and was at the centre of controversy for weeks.

I say, fly down to Japan where the 14 year old boys and girls are and ask for assistance! They are the ones who assemble them for 25 cents an hour. :D
AllThingsBright_ 11
Assembling and being able to fix an electronic device are two separate ideas.
pradip 26
I second it, I think it's Foxconn from China. And a employees there can't afford a iPhone
Inheritance 10
I've heard Japan too but I could be wrong
chris_42 11
That sucks OP, I hope your warranty covers the damages. If not, googling it might actually help you. Millions of people have iPhones, someone out there is bound to have had the same problem as you and posted about it online. Best of luck to you.
chris_42 11
You sure you were being helped by an actual Apple genius, and not the "genius" dog in the next FML?
AllThingsBright_ 11
See comment 58 for reply.

The moral of the FML is to google first before asking for somebody's help
winnerme123 8
Or ask.com they answer questions.
spaboolly 26
They don't at least have a tech support network they could direct you to? Or a team that does repairs on faulty devices? I mean... it's Apple. I would definitely try to contact a corporate help number to get a better solution and complain about their "advice." Even if they tried their best to help you and failed, they surely have better resources to look to than Google.
anedderm 4
I'm sure the genius googled it for him to fix the problem, at least I would hope so. He didn't say, " then he told me to google it."
zingline89 18
Google will get to the core of the problem. It probably stems from an Apple hardware issue. Those geniuses don't really have very thick skin if they're giving up on your issue. I'd say go ahead and proseed with trying to google the issue and see where you get.
zingline89 18
Sorry for all the fruity puns. I know they won't apeel to everyone.
chisty87 16
Don't worry OP they are just as dumb in chicago so you're not alone...

I like apple, and I am particularly fond of their customer service (compared to that of other companies, it isn't so bad) but I think all employes should be band from using the phrase "google it" if I wanted to google it I I would have, I don't need the permission of a glorified sales person. It's a stupid response, you either know how to help me with my problem or you don't, and if you don't, than maybe you should consider a different job.

That's what you took from my rant? You need help.

To be honest, I work in a position similar to this and sometimes people just have unrealistic expectations. "They come in and say my phone is a piece of $&!?. Tell me what's wrong with it." There are so many different things that can happen to a phone and they expect us to know every little thing about all of them. That expectation is not fair. I consider myself a bright individual with a bachelors degree and I'm working on a masters but here is my rant. 1. We are not the engineers of these devices. We know basic trouble shooting steps to fix things and honestly use google if we encounter something we haven't seen before because new things pop up everyday and to insinuate that we should look for another line of work because we sometimes have to rely on someone else's experience to fix yours is stupid. 2. People come in and ask us about the littlest and most fickle things that you can imagine like why does this app crash when I open it and it's not even every time. It could be like twice a month and all they have to do is turn the phone off and back on again and it starts working. 3. People lie up and down about what they've done with their phones. They'll tell us they never got the phone wet. Meanwhile, we can see water under the screen and the back of the phone is wet under the battery. I guess what this glorified salesperson is saying is I'm sorry if we have to rely on google from time to time in an industry that is constantly changing to try and figure out something from someone else's experience and I'm sorry, sometimes you are just asking us to do the impossible. We are not software developers or technicians. If we were, we would not be working in the retail stores. If your app crashes, contact the developer of the app. That's why they give you the option to email the developer. If your phone stopped working after you dropped it and you want to know why it won't turn on, I don't know. Something is broken but I can't tell you what or how to fix it. I can help you replace it.
MrBond007_fml 6
That's actually a pretty good argument, I kind of feel bad now. I can honestly say that the issue I have is not with the majority. Most of the sales people and techs are pretty helpful, but I have had a few experiences where they were seriously not even trying, and just pushed me to google immediately. Unfortunately this has happened on multiple occasions. Also I'm kind of a hypocrite, I have applied for more than one position as a "glorified sales person" it just sounded good in my head so I said it.
