Today, I went to my guidance counselor and told her how I'd been fascinated with space since I was 12, had read about the universe and everything, and how I want to be an astrologist when I grow up. She stared at me for a second, before saying, "But you're... stupid." FML

Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Same thing different taste
Today, my teacher told me that unless I went into medicine, math, or engineering, I would never amount to anything in life. This wasn't even two minutes after I told him I want to be an author. FML
Today, my high school guidance counselor tried to convince me NOT to go to college, mainly because it's been so long since someone from my high school went to college, that she got rid of all the college information she used to have. FML
Today, for the nth time, my father reminded me that I should study things related to the "real" world, as if I was studying theology, astrology or something. I'm studying for a master's degree in physics. FML
Today, my 9-year-old daughter was acting out and wouldn't do her homework. I told her that if she didn't study, she wouldn't get her acceptance letter from Hogwarts. She looked into my eyes, straight through to my soul and said, "Hogwarts isn't real, retard." FML
Bad omen
Today, I had a conference with my dad, my counselor, and my history and English teachers because my dad was "concerned" about my grades in those two classes. We talked for a while and it was going well, then my counselor asked what I wanted to study in college. I said I wanted to be a teacher. He laughed. FML
Shadowboxing
Today, my whole family was so excited about watching the Artemis II launch and scolded me for not mustering more enthusiasm. Great, we can go to space now… so anytime someone talks about real issues like climate change or racism, we'll hear, "Well just go to space then" or "Space will solve our problems." FML
Today, in astronomy class, a kid used Uranus in a hilarious innuendo. I was the only one who laughed. I also happen to be the teacher. FML
They'll go at night
Today, my daughter asked me why NASA hasn't gone to the sun yet. She's seventeen. FML
Today, I was participating in an activity to join a program which I really wanted to join. One of the teachers in charge seemed to notice my efforts and asked if I wanted to join the program. I said yes, thinking I had a chance. She laughed, shook her head before saying no and walking away. FML
Today, during my friend's group's science project presentation, the teacher yelled at me, "Stop making stupid faces at the presenters!" I was smiling. FML

Your counselor probably had a point. If you were interested in space you would want to be an astronomer, not an astrologist.

Comment moderated for rule-breaking.
My thoughts exactly. Though the guidance counselor probably doesn't know the difference.

Nonetheless, it was still an incredibly unprofessional thing to say.

Haha. Exactly what I thought first.

That's real professional.

That is horrible. Guidance councelors are supposed to help with problems, not critisize you in that manner.

238 - I'm more surprised by the fact that you had a guidance counselor in Elementary o.O
writerchic85 26
They have too nowadays so they can calm the kids down after someone eats a pop tart into the shape of a gun and traumatizes them.
ThunderLightTSV 31
Usually in elementary they have a guidance counsellor that the students have a class with once a month or so.

Yeah, seriously. At least know the actual name of the career before you bitch about her telling you the truth.

And your counselor is right-as two other people pointed out if you love space you want to be an ASTRONAUT. An Astrologist is a fraud who looks at the stars and sees the future.
SarahPicc 3
dumbass. it's astronomer. astronauts are just commercial faces for the program. because he does want to learn, astronomy would be the better bet.
Arcuna 0
So, yeah, that was wrong of your counselor, but did you mean astronaut or astronomer?
CherishFlowers 0
You guys are so stupid... even though he said the wrong thing, the guidance counselor had absolutely NO right to call him stupid.
Some_guy 6
It pretty clearly says "woman" on the post.
mock09 0
I think there's a point here. The counselor shouldn't have told OP she was stupid. The counselor SHOULD have just left her to go be the next Miss Cleo. Nothing says YDI like getting just what you ask for because you don't really know it as well as you thought. Besides, people get babied too much anyway. I'm glad there's someone out there who is willing to tell people that they can't realistically get everything they want. She's a counselor, not a ego-stroker.
