Today, I was trying to clean the belt of my register at work at a grocery store. I noticed two strips of rubber stuck in the corner of the belt, and after pulling on them periodically all morning one finally came loose. It was a foot. I had been pulling at a dead rat trapped in the belt. FML

Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Same thing different taste
Today, at work, I found a used condom in the fax machine. I'm the electrical maintenance repair for the company. I have to untangle it from the belts. FML
Pain like no one has ever seen before
Today, I found out how it feels to get your nut-sack caught in a belt buckle. FML
Today, while running an event, my belt loop got caught in those metal whorls that outdoor chairs have. I couldn't get it undone and had to greet guests by standing up and bringing the chair with me, hanging from my ass. My coworker finally had to cut the belt loop to set me free. FML
Pay attention
Today, I got my hand caught in a belt sander while sanding down what was supposed to become a "Caution" sign. FML
Today, my water wouldn't go down my shower drain. Confused, I stuck a metal stick expecting hair, but instead stabbed and pulled up a rat that was dead in my drain. FML
Today, I noticed my shower drain wasn't draining well. I cleaned it out, thinking it was just a rat's nest of hair. Wrong. It was an actual dead rat. FML
LM308 fried
Today, I finally found out what the horrible smell at work was. A rat had decided to make its home in our emergency exit sign and had been fried by the electricity. I now have to fix this. Hello scorched dead rat. FML
Technology hates human
Today, I went through a self-checkout at a grocery store. The machine kept repeating, “Please remove the unexpected item in the bagging area.” After five attempts, an employee came over and discovered the “unexpected item” was my own elbow resting on the counter. FML
Today, after three weeks of holding out, my stingy boss finally called animal control about the birds in the air vent above the register. While I was working, they rummaged through the vents, causing live maggots to fall down right in front of me. FML
Today, I dropped my remote behind the bed and went to reach for it. Instead of the remote, I grabbed hold of a rat carcass that must have got in when builders were working in my bathroom several weeks ago. FML

Everyone, settle down. All, and I mean ALL, grocery stores have rats. Mostly they eat garbage, if the store is careful about storing food. But this is one reason to ALWAYS wash your produce. A good store won't have too many rats, a bad store will have an infestation. The fact that you found a dead rat in your register belt suggests there's way too many of them.

Where do you live, Calcutta?! I can assure you that in civilized parts of the world there are at least SOME stores that don't have rats.

Where do you live #36, a plastic bubble? There is absolutely NO STORE (maybe a 1%) that has not at least had an incident with rats. And by incident I mean a "problem" or a "OMGRAT/SCREAM" moment. Doesn't matter how "civilized" your country is. And don't disregard my comment because of my location, I was born in the USA, and have lived in Guatemala for the past for five years - and actually, I've been in some stores that were cleaner than anything you'd ever see in the US.

Look on the bright side, at least you got it out sooner rather than later. It could have started to stink or may have popped out when a customer was there. For all we know, the latter happened.

Eh? How do you mistake a rat's paw for a piece of rubber? Rat paws look like... well, paws. They're pink, they've got claws, and they have small lumpy pads on the bottom a bit like dog paws. The top has fur. They don't feel like rubber, they feel like small non-stretchy skin-covered boney limbs. And they're pretty firmly attached, they aren't going to just pop off when you pull them. Sorry, but I don't see how this is possible. =S

Do you realize that it was in the belt of the register? Those things move. The rat probably got smashed so it would flatten.

Plus, it didn't just pop off. OP said she had been tugging at it all morning.
