Today, I asked my mom how much she had set aside for college. She then looked and me as if I were crazy and said "Why the hell would I do anything like that?" FML
Collection
Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Same thing different taste
Today, I asked my parents if I had a college fund because I will be going to university in two years. They laughed. FML
Boozehound
Today, after being accepted into the college of my dreams, I found out that my mom has spent all my college savings on alcohol over the years, and she says that it's my fault for not "helping her get help." FML
Selfish
Today, my mom yelled at me because I refused to lend her money. The reason I won't lend her money? The last time I did, she and my dad went out and bought a Macbook and a new car instead of paying bills. Apparently, I'm being 'selfish' by keeping my own money and putting it towards university. FML
Addict
Today, my mother asked me if she could borrow $200. Being the lovely daughter I am, I gave her my bank card to withdraw it herself. She gambled it away and maxed my bank account out. I had $1500 saved. FML
Today, I found out my mom took around $2,500 from my savings account to pay off my sister's college tuition. She recently flunked out of her studies and won't be returning to college anyway. FML
Today, I told my mom I loved her and she asked if I was going to kill myself. FML
Kids these days…
Today, my mom asked me what I did with the first paycheck from my first "big girl" job. I told her I paid down my credit debt like a responsible adult. She rolled her eyes and said she was disappointed in me for not treating myself. She was serious. FML
Technically, that's stealing
Today, I told my mom about the $50 I'd hidden in case of an emergency, and how I couldn't find it. She said she'd borrowed it last week. FML
Today, my sister finally broke down and told me that our dad gambled away of all my college savings, and I would have to pay for school the best way I can. They have known for months, and when I asked why nobody told me, the reply was, "You're a college boy, we thought you would figure it out." FML
Today, I asked my mom why she decided to be a parent. She replied, in all seriousness, "Everyone else was doing it." FML

#5 and #6 seriously, if you are that judgemental about people who's parents paid for their college, clearly you didn't learn much either. If you are lucky enough to have your parents pay for your education, which often you'll find they are happy to do for you, why on earth would you turn it down? Learning about how to cope with money starts with understanding when to seize opportunities that keep you out of debt. It's just ignorant to generalise and say that they are all spoilt and unable to cope with money. A lot of people who pay for their own education live at home, that doesn't necessarily imply that they can't live on their own or manage a budget. So think a little before you call them "rich brats", some of them are just well off, or have very generous parents.

Wow, I'm sorry. This makes me appreciate my parents' frugal ways during my childhood.

thats not FYL most normal people have to pay for college themselves. my parents didn't give me a penny i had to pay for absolutly everything myself. those whos parents pay are just spoilt and arent going to learn anything about how to cope with money problems in the future. whats wrong with you just get on with your life and enjoy what youve got.

#8 I'm not sure if it's useful to mention bar/restaurant/till experience on your CV when applying to large multinational companies to do, say...finance for instance?

Let this be an FML for all of the high school kiddies posting about their stupid girl/boy problems: This is a true FML, and I wish all the best of luck to this person in their studies. I'm sure it won't be easy, but if you research enough scholarships and loans, you'll make it through.

# 9 I don't read those guys as disparaging people who had their parents pay, but taking pride in doing it themselves. Further, to OP, the poorer your parents are, the more financial aid you will get. Just study hard kid.

"Why the hell would I do anything like that?" THAT is the fail, folks. It doesn't sound like an issue of whether or not the parents can pay, but that they didn't even bother to begin with.

Cry more. Your parents have no obligation to pay for your education. Are you going to pay them for 18+ years of food / utilities / etc?

Where I live it's state law that parents help pay for college. Granted they won't do it anything about it if they don't. But technically they are obligated.

ahaha what a great delivery but seriously, look for some scholarships, and financial aid can always help :)
