Today, I was so bored at a family gathering that I pretended to be busy texting the whole time. I don't know what's worse, that I'm not close to anyone in my family, or that I have no one close enough to text to about such things. FML

Today, I pretended to drunk text some friends. When in all reality I was sitting home all alone. I don't know what's worse: that I pretended that I was social and drunk, or that the friend I said I was with was actually with them. FML
Today, I was at my cousin's house. We weren't spending time together because he was always texting. After a couple of minutes, I got jealous. I played a ringtone on my cell, and "answered" it. I had a whole conversation with nobody in an attempt to seem somewhat more popular than a 10-year-old. FML
Today, I didn't even bother to turn my cellphone off in a movie theater because I knew no one would text me or call. FML
Today, I pretended to be texting to avoid talking to an old classmate I saw at the grocery store. Unfortunately, my phone rang while I was “texting.” It was the classmate. I had no choice but to answer, while we were both standing 10 feet apart. FML
Today, I was getting ready to go out with my family. As I was putting my phone in my purse, my father told me I wouldn't need it because we were going to spend 'quality time' together. The entire time I was there, everyone was staring at their phone. I was the only one without one. FML
Today, I was feeling really down and decided to text a friend to vent to someone about it. Then I realized, I don’t have any friends. FML
Today, when I got to a family reunion, I realized I've been on the internet for so long that I've forgotten how to have an actual conversation with real people. Now I'm the "Weird Uncle." FML
Today, I got an angry text from a random number calling me a lying piece of shit. I then realized that was the first person to text me in weeks. I ended up having a fake argument with someone because I was so lonely. FML
Today, I once again used my phone to get out of a conversation with someone, instead of actually talking to someone on it. FML
Today, I purposely went offline on Facebook chat, just so people would think I actually have a life. FML

well i don't know your family but why don't you try to ease yourself in with the group? maybe in time, you'll find something great about them so that the family gatherings won't be as bad.. as for the friend thing, you should ask for your friends' phone numbers then actually start texting..

you should really get to know your family because friends aren't going to be there forever but usually family is and you obviously have no close friends so you should talk to your family instead of trying to look 'cool' in front of them...just sayingggg

Thats Horrible , AT the end of the day your familys all yu got forreal, why are they gonna wanna be there for yu if yu sit and be on your fone , or even worse pretend too be . Familys too important too be doing this :/

I know how you feel, been in that same situation multiple times in the last year or two. It's getting better though. Take my advice, take up a hobby, I do archery. It's good fun and I have met quite a few new people from it.

I don't have much to do with my family either. When my mother was pregnant with me her family told her she should get an abortion. This was so she could continue to be their free babysitter and keep all of their kids. I totally get where you're coming from on not having anyone to talk to at family functions. I've tried time and again to be smiley and happy and take part in conversations. It didn't work. After so many years of being treated like crap and purposely not included in activities or family gatherings, I gave up. It's sad, family should be there fore each other. I don't know you how old you are, but when I turned 18 I stopped going to family functions that weren't being held at my parents' home. I have nothing to say to those people, they make no difference in my everyday life. No need to fake text message, just don't go. As for the friends...I never had trouble making friends as a teenager, but now I only have 2 or 3 close friends who I tell most everything too. It's not a bad thing. Oh and you'll never have someone to open up to if you don't try opening up to someone. If you know someone who's always asking how you are, chances are they reall care. Why not try talking to them?

I know exactly what you're talking about. I have that same situation where I don't know anyone in my family well and I can't relate to them. After all, I was the "mistake" in the family (my mom has said that I was unexpected right in front of my face to others). I have some friends, but not true ones, they're more like acquaintances and I don't know them well, nor do they know me. They don't know my phone number nor where I live or what my life is like. Don't worry, you're not alone.

Dude, You and more than half the worlds population is "unexpected" or a "mistake". Don't let it get you down. My mom wanted a girl. 3 boys later she got what she was really after. Life is about how you play the hand you were dealt.

Don't be a prude, try connecting with your family instead of pretending to text. You don't even have to get close to them, but you probably have more to talk about than you think.
