Today, I picked up an elderly woman walking alone in the cold. I asked her where she was going but she didn't respond. Thinking she was just cold, I kept driving until a man driving erratically kept honking at me. Turns out he's her husband and she has severe Alzheimers. FML

Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Same thing different taste
Today, an old lady asked me the way to the shopping mall. The shopping mall was not too far away, but I could see that the lady could barely walk so I offered to drive her there. She smacked my car's door into a pole while getting in my car. She didn't even notice that she'd done something wrong. FML
Today, at the supermarket, an old lady asked for directions to the produce aisle. Having read way too many stories lately on this very site about awful elderly folks, I was wary, but helped her out. She gave me an awkward hug in thanks, lifting my wallet in the process, as I later found out. FML
Carry her home
Today, I helped an elderly woman push her grocery cart around the store, and look for her vehicle after she'd paid. After we spent ages wandering around trying to find her car, she remembered that she'd taken the bus today. FML
Today, I was standing in a queue when an old lady turned, looked straight at me, and asked me to hold her bag. Confused, I took a hold of it. She started screaming for help claiming I was stealing her shopping. Turns out, she was talking to her husband behind me. FML
Today, I was driving and stopped behind a person at a stop sign. Their car didn't move for about 1 minute. I got out of my car yelling at the person. It was an old woman. She wasn't breathing. FML
Today, I saw an elderly woman in need of help of crossing a street. I helped her across. On the way she just about fell and held onto me to keep from hitting the ground. After she left on her bus I reached for my wallet. It was gone. I had just been robbed by a 70 year old. FML
The road to hell
Today, an old lady fell in the street, and I rushed to help her. As I tried to help her to her feet, she started screaming, "She pushed me! She pushed me!" I froze up in shock, and ended up being chased by some guy who thought I'd attacked her. FML
Help!
Today, I was strolling past an old women when from behind me she called, "Can you help me get the rest of the groceries out of the car?" I approached the car, and helped her unload bags. She began hitting me, screaming, "SOMEONE IS STEALING MY THINGS". She was actually asking her son in the car. FML
Today, I was in the middle of walking home when I saw an old woman trying to get away from what looked like a mugger. I go over and try to help her out and get the man off of her, which was successful. Turns out she was having a heart attack and the man was a doctor. FML
Today, I was working when my boss left briefly, leaving me with her elderly, senile mother. Not only did I have to chase her when she ran after a stranger on the road, I turned my back for 5 seconds to do my actual job and she walked off. When my boss returned, I had to tell her I lost her mother. FML

No way you could have known. That was really nice of you to think to let her warm up in the car. Good on you OP!

Well, at least you helped somebody. Hopefully the husband understood what happened and was cool with it.

Alzheimer's is such an awful disease. My heart is with whomever suffers from it ):

And their families

Such an awful disease and can be even harder on the family. To watch your loved ones eventually not be able to recognize you and become a shell of their former selves.

It's funny in a sad way. Having known someone with alzheimers, you take all the opportunities to laugh about it because they are so far between!

Definitely couldn't have known. It's cold, you did the right thing. They really should have an Alzheimer's bracelet or something like they do for peanut allergies though in case of emergency.

I doubt someone with Alzheimer's would be able to wear it if they were in the stage where they would do what the lady in this fml did. they would be very confused and frustrated by it. now if they were in the later/end stages where they couldn't even walk, it wouldn't be necessary at that point lol

They have them. And you can get any medical condition put on a medical bracelet, if you can't find one locally. My local CVS sells Alzheimer's bracelets along with their nut allergy bracelets and diabetes bracelets. Some even have locking clasps where you need a special tool to remove them. There are also GPS locators that can be attached to the person discreetly, where they may not be able to find them.

It's a good idea but sometimes something like that can really agitate the person so you have to just work on things that are immediate threats.

I'm not sure why 16 is downvoted; I worked for several years with people with dementia and I totally agree with their comment. If they don't recognise the bracelet (most of them "time travel" and live in the past, so wouldn't remember it as theirs) they would remove it thinking it didn't belong to them.

Well, at least she wasn't a ghost.

Haha! What I meant was, this sounded like the start to a cliche ghost story.
