Today, I was working when my boss left briefly, leaving me with her elderly, senile mother. Not only did I have to chase her when she ran after a stranger on the road, I turned my back for 5 seconds to do my actual job and she walked off. When my boss returned, I had to tell her I lost her mother. FML

Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Same thing different taste
Today, at work, I was about to close a big sale, when a coworker rushed over and said there was a call for me in the office. He heavily implied my mom had died, and I rushed out. After I figured out there was no call and that my mom was fine, he'd already stolen my sale and the commission. FML
Heartless
Today, I lost my job. Why? Because I'm taking care of my dying mother. My boss actually said, "Well, if she dies today, we can hold your job." FML
Challenging
Today, I accidentally showed up 5 minutes late for my shift. My boss mercifully declared that I would not be fired if I called my mother and told her I love her. My mom died 11 years ago. FML
Storage wars
Today, I brought my daughter to work with me. When we walked in, a client was blowing up at my boss, all because as my boss was walking past his storage unit, he glanced in and was about to compliment how neat it was. After my boss left, I had to deal with the aftermath, which left my daughter terrified of this man. FML
Assumptions
Today, I was short shifted at work because one of my employees decided not to show up. Furious, I wrote her up and made predetermined judgments about her. When she came in, I went off on her for being absent and leaving me stuck. She then informed me her mom tried to commit suicide. FML
Today, at work, an old lady came through my line to buy some groceries. She told me she lost her purse and was a little short. It was busy, so I pulled out my little purse and gave her the money she needed. A few minutes later she returned with my boss, insisting that my purse was hers. FML
Today, the new manager at my workplace left early in a panic, exclaiming, "My grandma had an accident! I need to see if she's okay!" I was left in charge of the bar once again. This is the sixth time this week his grandma has had an "accident". FML
Today, my manager cussed me out for being unable to keep a customer happy. That "customer" was a senile old twit who had wandered away from his carer, thought our shop was his living room, and demanded to know who replaced all his furniture. FML
Now what?
Today, I went on the road for work for the first time in a very long time. I was enjoying lunch with coworkers when my phone got bombarded with calls and texts. Turns out my wife and my mother had gotten into a fight within two hours of me being away. FML
Lost
Today, my mom was on the phone while we went grocery shopping. Apparently, her phone call was more important because she just left me stranded in the store. FML

You need to get her one of those kid leashes and just tie it to something so she doesn't wonder off. Sorry about the misfortune OP :P

That sucks OP. I hope your boss was understanding and that you did eventually find her. Old people can go bonkers. Best of luck!

I was thinking the same thing! Though I wonder if those harnesses for bigger dogs will fit an adult human?

Well, put this down and go help find her!

I doubt the OP had the option of telling her boss that she "wasn't up for the task". So stop being a judgemental asshole and assuming that the OP has dealt with an elderly senile person before. It sounds like it was an honest mistake. So maybe you shouldn't have kids if you can't be a decent non judgemental person :) (this is in response to what this person had previously commented before they changed their comment)
james_logan 19
Well what was the comment before it was changed?
amelitaliz 22
Isn't that what I did by changing the comment? *Not* being a judgmental asshole?? Don't you think if I felt my comment had been fair and appropriate, I would have left it as is? About that not judging thing you're preaching... As you're judging... Lol. Good times. At least I had a change of heart within the sixty seconds or whatever timeframe it is. You chose to be nasty and decided it was good enough to keep... Best wishes to you and OP.

Did your boss actually expect you to do your job and watch her elderly mother (something you should not have been tasked with) at the same time?
Jonny_Blaze0017 26
Feels like a lose-lose situation to me. If you don't watch her mom then you get bitched out, on the other hand you'll also get flamed for not doing your real job
JustTheTruth42 13
Flamed? Is that slang for fired or just what it's called elsewhere?
Jonny_Blaze0017 26
It's just another term for being bitched at, although it's more common over the use of Internet. Kind of like being attacked verbally for saying something disagreeable

What I want to know is why your boss is brining their senile old mother to their business and then leaving her under the watch of employees who have no responsibility over her.
YoloWhiteRSA 20
You didn't sign up to look after the bitch. It's his own fault. He knew she was senile.
trucker2 33
And do you call your mother a bitch, as well ....?
Chikiriwak 17
It's not your fault, he shpuld have known something could happen.
hilamonster06 21
You should have told your boss that you dropped her off at the nearest rest home so that the people who's job it actually is the take care of the elderly could have looked after her. If that pissed off your boss then quit, I'm sure you are over qualified for that job anyway.
