Today, I had to work at the restaurant instead of going to the prom, which nobody asked me out to. For five hours, I got to shamefully greet and seat people on their way home from the prom, all of whom knew I was too lame to get asked out. FML

A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Today, at work, I was supposed to have an easy two-hour shift, after which I was planning on attending a party that had been arranged to celebrate my graduation. Nearly six hours later, I am just getting home after being super busy and shorthanded at work for hours. I missed my own party. FML
Today, I spent almost nine hours cleaning because I was promised I could go to junior prom if my room was cleaned. I missed a dust bunny and couldn't go. I had a date for this, who I'd had a crush on for over a year and barely managed to ask to go with me. FML
Today, I invited my girlfriend to go eat out, hoping to put her in a really romantic mood. She decided to tell her friend, who then invited herself and another couple along. I ended up being made fifth wheel, and had to sit alone at an adjacent table. FML
Today, one of my teachers asked me to babysit their kids saturday night. She didn't forget that it was Prom night, she was going to chaperone it. My teacher assumed I wasn't invited to Prom... I wasn't. FML
Today, I went to prom with my two friends. I was ditched by my prom date because he had “other plans.” The weird thing is that when we got to the prom location, I saw him with another date. FML
Today, I wanted to take my girlfriend to a nice dinner before prom. Her parents followed her in, and joined us to "keep an eye on me." They interrupted all our conversations, ate an expensive meal, then got up and walked out when the waitress brought the $95 check, leaving me to pay for it. FML
Today, a pretty co-worker invited me out for drinks after my shift. I have no money left until payday. Embarrassed, I had to decline and go home alone. FML
Today, while serving at my restaurant, a mother acted as a wing-woman for her son by insisting I read a note he'd written, asking for my number. I had to awkwardly reject the guy in front of his entire family, before having to keep serving them for another hour. FML
Today, I asked a boy I like to prom by writing all over his car. After nervously sitting by the phone all day, I decided to go out to get lunch. I found the word "No!" written all over my car. FML
Today, my cute coworker begged me to cover his shift tomorrow, and told me that he wanted to take me to dinner to make up for it. I was very excited because I've been crushing on him for a long time. I later overheard him tell his friend that he didn't plan on showing up for our dinner. FML

Don't feel too bad, one time i had to work on prom night as well and my boyfriend at the time said he didn't want to go so i was okay with working because i wouldn't have a date anyway. Well he freaking went without me and then lied to me about it for 3 days until i got the truth out of him and then started being a royal asshole to me because i found him out. Prom is a waste of time anyway, i don't enjoy being around people and i always ended up feeling awkward and left out, even if my friends were with me.

Why didn't you just take off work and go with your friends? It's not the 1950s, you don't need a date for prom. You missed your only chance because you expected someone to ask you. That's your fault. I'd say next time just go with friends but there won't be a next time.

I know how demeaning it can feel to serve the people you know or in my case used to know, but the trick is to know that they are no better or worse than you. You should however have more confidence in yourself and do what you want to. If you don't want to go to prom, don't. Also, High school people are ALL IDIOTS. When you look back, you'll realise you were one too. Don't let the bastards grind you down

Prom is totally overrated. It's a waste of money, time and all anyone does is judge everything you do/wear. Do something fun to make up for it!

Dont worry too much about it. Once you finish high school and begin your adult life, high school wont matter and be a distant memory. You will be too busy with your new life (work, college, maintaining your house, possible marriage, kids, hobbies, friends...etc).
