Today, I had to explain to my Pokemon-obsessed 6-year-old cousin that Albinos are not "Shiny People". FML

Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Same thing different taste
What the…?
Today, because no one else was willing to, I had to explain to my uncle that he's white, that I'm not his grandfather, and that he's mentally challenged. FML
Today, I had to explain to my friend that the world did not used to be black and white. It was just the pictures that were. She still doesn't believe me. She's eighteen. FML
Fucknut
Today, my overly religious fucknut of a cousin called me, ranting about my daughter trying to corrupt hers. They were chatting on a kids' messenger app when my 5-year-old sent her 7-year-old a Pokémon sticker. Apparently, Pokémon in satanic and we ought to know better. Now she won’t let them talk to us. FML
Today, I had to explain to my grandmother why, "What a nice singing voice! He doesn't sound black at all!" is not a compliment. FML
The genetics expert has logged on
Today, I met my "grandson". Even though my son and his wife are both lily white, the child was clearly half-black. I pulled my son aside to have a word, but he said, "Her grandmother was black and she has recessive genes, it's really rare." I can't believe I raised this dumbass. FML
Today, I realized that I'll have to explain to my child that mommy and daddy met on World of Warcraft. FML
Today, while waiting in line at Gamestop, another customer and the cashier started chatting about how Pokémon is for kids, and anyone over 10 who's into it is weird. Embarrassed, I put the new Pokémon game back on the shelf and snuck out of the store. FML
Today, I had to explain to a patient that no, her nipples were not slowly getting smaller. FML
Let him have his innocence
Today, my six-year-old son told me how it was funny that there's "a food chicken and an animal chicken". That's going to be a fun one to explain to him. FML
Today, I had to explain to my daughter that just because it says non-toxic on the crayons, it doesn't mean that you should eat them. She's 16. FML

He's not entirely wrong. "Shiny" Pokémon are individuals of their species with unusual pigmentation- likely due to what would be genetics if Pokémon existed in the human world. Albinos are humans who lack or produce very little pigmentation meaning they look like they have unusual pigmentation, due to genetics. Both are uncommon. If anything, him being able to make that connections shows some above average ability for connecting information together.

No, they just glow in the dark.

It can be hard to explain those things to a small child. Kudos for trying, though. If the lesson doesn't take, just try to laugh it off. Most people won't get too terribly pissed at a little kid for making those kinds of comments; adults generally get that little kids have no filter. And once the lil Pokemon trainer gets old enough, they'll realize the truth on their own.

Come back in about 10 years. If your cousin still thinks albinos are Shiny People then it's an fml.

They are not shiny people but a super rare type.

Thank you for relating the two. I didn't understand what liking Pokemon had to do with it.

I think me and your kid would get along very well. I had the same thought when I was 6.
