Today, my boyfriend broke up with me, right after I turned down an amazing job opportunity in another location, just so I could be with him. FML
Today, I gave my boyfriend an ultimatum: me, the girl who’s been there through thick and thin for the past 2 years, supported him through his unemployment and death of his father, and who cooks and cleans for him every day, or the girl coworker who he’s been emotionally cheating on me with. Guess who he chose. FML
Today, my boyfriend came home from a two week vacation and told me I needed to move out. FML
Today, I went to see my boyfriend with the intention of breaking up with him. Instead I discovered that he lost his job today and has to move back in with his parents. I can't bring myself to dump someone who's already crying about his horrible day. Now I have to comfort my soon-to-be ex. FML
Today, my boyfriend left me after I'd been supporting him for 9 months while he "finds himself." Why? Because I wanted to go grocery shopping instead of him eating out every day with my money. FML
Today, my boyfriend of 3 months broke up with me because he is moving. He's only moving 20 minutes away. FML
Today, I asked the person I love to commit to me. Instead, he packed his shit and moved out. FML
Today, my boyfriend of four years broke up with me because he wanted some independence. He moved back into his parents' house. FML
Today, I quit my job and sent a mass mail on Facebook that I was moving to a different state with my long time boyfriend. He called me later that night to tell me we aren't moving after all. Now we are both jobless with loads of bills to pay by the end of the month. FML
Today, after I helped get my boyfriend get a new job, he thanked me by dumping me for some whore who works there. FML

He wanted you to take the better job so he could mooch off you in higher style. With your higher paycheck, he could lounge on your couch and drink nice, European beers instead of that domestic swill your meager earnings can buy him. I don't know why you didn't discuss the new job with him before making your decision. Are you two very close?

If you are upset about your boyfriend breaking up with you, you must care for him. Why did you not discuss the oppurtunity with him and make a decesion together? That only seems realistic.

Logic is not useful in this story. She thought she had an either-or choice, but when she turned down the job, she unexpectedly lost the boyfriend, too. My question is why she didn't discuss the job with the boyfriend before she made the decision? If she knew he would dump her for not taking the job, she certainly would have accepted it. Makes no sense.

This suggests you made a major life decision without consulting him. It's also unclear if staying with means in a relationship or just in physical space. If he told you it was him or the job and dumped you anyway, then this does suck. Otherwise, YDI for not talking to him. Actually, since it's unclear, I figure YDI.

In a bad economy it's worth taking a job and making long distance work. When me and my now husband did it, the Internet wasn't an option. Video calls, emails and texts just weren't there. But we made it work. And personally no matter how much I love someone I'm going to take care of myself job and education wise so I don't end up resenting the person I gave it up for. It sucks op. You were in a hard spot and tried to do what you thought was best to have it backfire.
