Today, I got back to my apartment from being away for the past week on Spring break. I found the locks on my apartment changed and all my things on the curb, many of them broken or stolen. I ran to the leasing office to see what had happened. Turns out it was an accounting error on their part. FML

Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Same thing different taste
Today, I returned from a week-long vacation. My landlord told me he had let my boyfriend in my apartment to get something. I don't have a boyfriend. Everything in my apartment is gone. FML
Today, I had just gotten home after being away for 8 months. My key didn’t work on my lock and while I was messing the door a man with a child opened. My landlord gave someone my apartment while I was away. FML
Today, after quite a long work day, I got home to find my house had been broken into. Everything but my sleeping boyfriend was gone. FML
Let me in
Today, I found myself locked out of my apartment because my roommate had a medical emergency while I was out of town. The rental office, including maintenance, is closed until Monday. FML
Suspicious activity
Today, I visited my girlfriend's apartment for the first time. I guess she forgot to do some spring cleaning before I showed up, because I saw my laptop on her couch. The same laptop that was stolen from my house along with several other valuables last week. FML
Landlords gonna landlord
Today, I got my deposit back from my last apartment. The receipt is riddled with math errors. I'd told them I’m an accountant when I moved in, so I redid the receipt in my own time to see how bad they fucked it up. They owe me $400 more due to their mistake, and I’m sure I’ll never see any of it. FML
Today, I tried to surprise my parents by coming home from college for Spring Break. I arrived to find a dark house, with all the doors bolted shut. After calling them, I found out that they have gone on a vacation to Hawaii for a week. I am now locked out of my own house, with no where to stay. FML
Help yourself
Today, I came back to my apartment after moving most of my stuff out. Upon returning, I learned that my now ex-roommate drank all of my alcohol and threw away my things, thinking that I had forgotten them. FML
Thanks for all your help
Today, after being in Europe for a month, I got home to find my door wide open and all my stuff gone. I called my dad who was supposed to be watching my house. He told me I should have had someone check on my place while I was gone. FML
Today, I came home to found all of my belongings out on the street. My roommate, who is also my brother, apparantly neglected to pay his part of the rent, and we got evicted. FML

well i'm sure either you/they have insurance, and you can always take them to court, esp. to sue them for not only material but also "emotional" damages.

@#32: Actually, the "McDonald's Coffee Case" (I'm assuming this is the case in question, as it is the case most people are talking about when they mention coffee spillage in conjunction with silly lawsuits) isn't as foolish as everyone makes it out to be. McDonald's was deliberately serving coffee at unsafe temperatures, and the lady had third degree burns on her crotch. Third-degree burns, on six percent of her body. And she only sued for enough to cover medical costs, the rest was punitive and set by the court. http://www.lectlaw.com/files/cur78.htm Happy fun excerpts for those who don't want to read the whole thing: A vascular surgeon determined that Liebeck suffered full thickness burns (or third-degree burns) over 6 percent of her body, including her inner thighs, perineum, buttocks, and genital and groin areas. She was hospitalized for eight days, during which time she underwent skin grafting. Liebeck, who also underwent debridement treatments, sought to settle her claim for $20,000, but McDonalds refused. Further, McDonalds' quality assurance manager testified that the company actively enforces a requirement that coffee be held in the pot at 185 degrees, plus or minus five degrees. He also testified that a burn hazard exists with any food substance served at 140 degrees or above, and that McDonalds coffee, at the temperature at which it was poured into styrofoam cups, was not fit for consumption because it would burn the mouth and throat. Plaintiffs' expert, a scholar in thermodynamics applied to human skin burns, testified that liquids, at 180 degrees, will cause a full thickness ["third degree"] burn to human skin in two to seven seconds. [if the coffee was a mere 25 degrees cooler, she could have avoided a serious burn] That rant over with: sue their pants off. They deserve it.

#42 - The old lady deserved MORE than she got in the McDonald's case. People are either ignorant or really effing stupid if they think that was a frivolous lawsuit. Speaking of lawsuits, I'd make your landlords miserable. First, find a new place to live. Then beat their asses with every kind of legal issue you can. Drive them into the ground for this. I'd also consider pressing criminal charges if possible.

The old lady decided to precariously balance a cup of hot coffee between her legs. She was asking for trouble.

#47: Mostly, its ignorance. "Hurr, she spilled coffee and sued. What an idiot!" Although there are some really effing stupid people out there (I know, I work customer service).
