Today, I finally finished painting a house that took me 3 weeks to complete at 10 hours a day, including weekends, due to my dedication to perfection. When I went to meet with the homeowner for pay day, which was supposed to be $2000, he gave me $200, 5 tacos and then told me to "get the f*** off my lawn." FML

Today, after spending 5+ hours of my life painting a portrait of someone's cat for them, I finally finished it, perfect condition, no mistakes. I was supposed to be paid 300 bucks for it. Got 50 bucks because it was too "vibrant." FML
Today, it was my last day decorating a customer's house, I had one room to paint and that was it. I sat down on the stairs to check my phone before starting and woke up four hours later to the customer shaking me to see if I was alive, and then yelling at me for getting paid to sleep. FML
Today, after shoveling one guy's steps, sidewalk, and driveway for two hours straight, I went to ask for my money. He said, "Work is its own reward!" and shut the door in my face. FML
Today, I finally summoned the courage to ask my dad to pay me as he promised, after I cut the lawn and cleaned all the house windows last week. His response was, "Get fucked." FML
Today, after weeks of slaving away, I finally wrapped up the last house project on the backlog. I decided to take a day to relax around the house in celebration. My wife spent all day following me around, moaning that I never go anywhere, and that she never gets any space. FML
Today, after spending two weeks renovating my room and $1000 on paint and a new floor, my landlord told me that he's sold the house. Also, he was kind enough to inform me that unless I paint the walls back to white, I won't be getting my $500 deposit back. FML
Today, I finally finished a drawing that someone had asked and said they would pay me for. I worked on it for multiple hours and was very proud of it. When it came to discussing payment, I asked what his best offer was. A pack of cigarettes. FML
Today, after three weeks of hard work, I finally finished painting my room. Apparently my 6-year-old brother thought I wasn't done and that he should help me out. I now have little red handprints all over my white walls. FML
Today, my husband has been painting our house all weekend and plans to finish the job after work today. I decided to surprise him by completing the job myself. Painting the last window frame, I dropped the open tin of white paint, right onto our car roof. FML
Today, I was painting my mom's house, which so far had taken 12 hours over two days. All of a sudden there was a wind storm. All of the leaves stuck to the wet paint. FML

Wow, OP. Must've been an enormous house doing interior and exterior. And if it was, why did you only bid 2K? I pull $1,500 per 60 hour work week when I'm painting. Lesson learned. Bid higher, always bring spray paint in case of payment failure.

That is why you get them to pay you upfront or atleast part of it upfront, more than $200 atleast, though. $2000 seems like a reallyyyyy low price for three weeks of work. I know paint isn't cheap so I would have asked for more in the first place.

Not entirely true. A verbal contract is binding and I doubt there is are any judges who would believe you agreed to paint an entire house for $200. Hell, most would probably think $2000 was low.

Maybe he took a lot longer to complete it than they agreed upon. THERE SHOULD HAVE BEEN A CONTRACT, so you could sue Angry Taco Man. If there WAS a contract, maybe you took too long, which was a breach of contract on your part and he wasn't a happy customer.

6: That's what I thought. I can easily see a homeowner reacting this way if OP agreed to a daily or hourly wage, rather than a total cost of $2K. Then it would probably seem like he was milking the job, rather than just being perfectionistic. Three weeks of solid work seems an unreasonably long time, unless the house was huge.
