Today, I donated to a charity website. My card was repeatedly refused by the website but when I went on my account, I was charged for each time I tried. I was scammed by a charity. FML
Collection
Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Same thing different taste
Today, I found out that because I, like many others, don't read the terms and conditions, I accidentally donated £200 to a charity because of a non-refundable payment on a volunteering trip. It's my parents' money. FML
Today, I got stopped by people asking for donations for their charity services. Being who I am, I hate saying no to people, so I told them, "I don't have any money, only my card." Did you know they also accept payment by card? FML
Scammers gonna scam
Today, I found out that the $100,000 scholarship I "won" was a scam. I found it on a website. When I won, they asked for a "processing fee" that I begged my brother to let me borrow. The website has vanished into internet wasteland and I have no way of paying back the money. FML
Today, I found out that, after offering to fill out my student aid application for me, my mother sent all of my personal information to a scam site instead. FML
Scammed
Today, I found out that I'm just one of the millions who got scammed by what seemed to be a legit website. None of the negative reviews or bugs appeared until after I spent a fortune of someone else’s money on a server that will never arrive. FML
Make it make sense
Today, I had to contact my bank because their fraud department thought me buying gifts for 7 different people for Christmas was fraud. It wouldn't be a big deal, except they then wouldn't accept the original purchase and I had to go to the website to get the purchase to go through a second time. My bank is paranoid. FML
Bullet = Dodged
Today, while paying for dinner, my card declined and my date immediately left. The waitress then ran my card again successfully. FML
Can't buy me love
Today, I realized while paying bills on my phone I fat-fingered which credit card I was paying and sent 299 to a paid-off card instead of 200 to another one. Now I'm going to have overdraft fees too. FML
Scammers gonna scam
Today, I had a vulnerable day, which led me to being scammed 2400 dollars, worried about something that a simple Google search and five seconds of reading would've rectified. FML
Today, my girlfriend received a scam email about her great uncle dying and leaving her money. She not only believed it, but she also used my credit card details for it. FML

I hope they really use that money for charity.

I wouldn't be convinced they are a charity.

I doubt it.

Was this, by any chance, George Costanza's "Human Fund."

I hope everyone knows that a lot of the charity's you donate to don't actually go to charity. Most are scams or only 10% of the profit they make actually goes to where they tell you it's going.

To add to what 25 said, PETA and HSUS are two of the biggest scammers. They rake in millions of dollars with pictures of sad animals, and use that money to fund euthanizing the majority of animals they take in, and lobbying towards bills to take away your rights to keep your pets. Moral of the story: if you want to help animals with a donation, donate money or supplies straight to your local animal shelter.

how many times?

Personally, I'd give up after about three times, but I'm not OP.

I have Chase. If they see multiples of the same charge on my account, they automatically reverse it, then call me for verification.

^^ Chase is the best

The more likely scenario is that there was a problem with the technical end of the transaction. This literally just happened to me last night. I ordered a $400 ladder and the first time it said it couldn't complete the transaction due to my billing address which was total BS. I double checked my stuff and tried again and it worked. Lo and behold I checked my paypal and paypal sent them two payments and I had 2 order numbers. They were quick to refund the extra transaction. If OP takes it up with their bank they should be able to reclaim the funds if the charity won't help.

Why the hell would you order a $400 ladder when you can get one for less by going to the store..??

Yes, Op's a dumbass because she was giving money out of the goodness of her heart, not knowing she was being scammed. Think before you comment.

The gift that keeps giving...

To the "charity" that keeps on taking.

Nah, that's herpes.

Did you donate to a prince who was trying over throw his tyrant father?
jazmin3012 28
that's rude and disrespectful! But don't forget that all good deeds don't go unpunished. :-)
Metagame 12
But unfortunately OP's intentions were not necessarily to do THAT good of a deed.
poncho55 40
You get punished for doing good deeds?

Welcome to FML poncho55....The place where good deeds and punishment for those good deeds are the way of life.

You should definitely let the police know. Hopefully they can recover your money!

Or just tell your card company to cancel the charges...

26, if it's a scam site posing as a charity, it needs to be taken down, which is why the authorities need to be alerted.

Was the charity run by a Nigerian prince who had a boatload of money to give away?
