Today, I broke up with my boyfriend. I had only been dating him for about a month. Thinking he wouldn't take it very hard, I invited him over so I could tell him in person. Little did I know he was going to start crying on my couch and not leave for 5 hours. FML

Today, I broke up with my boyfriend. I called him about two minutes after, and he'd already fallen asleep. FML
Today, I went to see my boyfriend with the intention of breaking up with him. Instead I discovered that he lost his job today and has to move back in with his parents. I can't bring myself to dump someone who's already crying about his horrible day. Now I have to comfort my soon-to-be ex. FML
Today, I went to my boyfriend's apartment to break up with him since he's always busy, and I haven't seen or spoke to him in almost 2 months. I arrived to find out from his landlord that he'd moved out 3 weeks ago, leaving a note saying that we were over. FML
Today, I was making out with my boyfriend. When we took a break and went downstairs, he checked the mail. He had received a letter from his ex-girlfriend, which he opened in front of me. He then began sobbing on my shoulder and broke up with me. He still had to drive me home. FML
Today, my boyfriend of almost a year and a half broke up with me when he decided he wasn't in love with me anymore. We gave our stuff back, he was joking and happy the whole time until I told him I was taking back my cat. At that point he burst into tears. FML
Today, I was going to break up with my boyfriend for taking me for granted and being such a jerk. He didn't even show up for our date. FML
Today, my boyfriend called and said he was stopping by to talk. I didn't understand why he would stop by, so I asked if he was going to break up with me, he said no. Half an hour later, he knocked on my door to break up with me. FML
Today, I broke up with my boyfriend. Devastated, he withered onto the floor into an inconsolable wreck in front of dozens of people. The ribbon of embarrassment that went down my spine was too much for me to handle, so I had to tell him I was "only joking." FML
Today, I'd been getting ready to hear my boyfriend's proposal, as his friends had told me he'd talked to them about planning it. He showed up at my house out of the blue… to tell me he's breaking up with me, only to find out he proposed to his ex hours later. FML
Today, my boyfriend broke up with me, by text, while we were in the same room. FML

Kudos to you for breaking up with him in person rather than by text. He would have probably handled it much worse (like crying for 10 hours on your couch) if you did that.

Well I'm trying not to judge here, so sorry. But unlike (I'm assuming he's now an ex) boyfriend, I like to keep things at a steady pace and not get too attached too quickly in case things like this happen. I know that her (ex) boyfriend is not me, so you don't have to remind me. I'm not trying to start an all out debate on the matter, I'm just voicing my opinion. That's what the comments are for, after all.

You've got to be kidding me. What is she supposed to do, stay with a guy she clearly doesn't want to be with forever just because he'd be hurt if she broke up with him? If you don't want to be with someone, breaking up with them is FAR nicer than faking it. And there's nothing to indicate she did it in a mean way. All we know is that she did it in person, which is a point in her favor.
