Today, I accompanied my daughter to her classmate's Disney Princess themed birthday party. Minutes in, the celebrant's mother kindly asked us to leave because my daughter was ruining the theme. How? She dressed up as Princess Leia. FML

Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Same thing different taste
Today, I was hosting my daughter's thirteenth birthday party. One parent decided to stay at my house, the only parent to do so. The entire night she critiqued every decision I made, from the films to the cake. When it was time to open presents, her kid was the only one without one. FML
Today, I was working a kid's birthday party dressed as a clown. The child's mother made me change because he was scared of clowns. The only thing I had in my car was a princess costume that was owned by a girl co-worker. So for 4 hours I had to entertain in a tight pink dress. I'm a guy. FML
Happiest place on Earth
Today, I took my family to Disneyland. My husband had more fun than my five year-old daughter. He was hitting on the princesses. FML
Today, I went back to work after a vacation, only to find out I'll soon be forced to dress up as one of the princesses from Frozen to promote our store. FML
Today, my family bet me $20 to wear a Disney Princess hat for the entire day around a theme park. I am 17 years old. We decided to go for lunch in one of the restaurants. After we finished, a woman gave my parents a leaflet on how to cope with disabled children. FML
That's the spirit
Today, I'd promised my daughter I’d make her costume for School Spirit Day, so I'd stayed up late hot-gluing fabric, only to now notice that I’d attached the sleeves upside down. She wore it anyway because there was no time to fix it, and I spent the day hoping no other parent would ask where I got it. FML
Fashionista
Today, my mother had a full-on hissy fit because of the clothes I was wearing. Not because she thought they were inappropriate, but because I was "stealing her look." FML
Today, I went to visit my overly-posh mother for the first time in many years. Upon arrival, she kicked me out because my outfit did not follow the same color-scheme as her decor. FML
What about king-size chocolate bars?
Today, I took away my daughter’s candy bar, saying, “Princesses never eat sweets.” She spent the next few hours crying, because she “didn’t want to be a princess anymore." FML
Clashing
Today, my daughter came home in tears, completely distraught. It took half an hour to convince her to tell me what was wrong. What horrific thing happened to her? One of her friends wore the same outfit as her to the movies, and apparently that's a betrayal of their friendship. FML

Come on, not only did she follow the theme perfectly, she chose a really badass princess.

This is where I'm at! Never mind whether she was technically right or not! Who the hell cares more about maintaining the theme of a kids' party than the kid getting to celebrate with their friends?

Your daughter is better off without people like that, judging her by what she is wearing. An adult judging a child like that is pathetic.

The other girls were jealous your kid went as the best princess ever.

While Disney owns Lucasfilm, I disagree with those that say Leia is a Disney princess. Official 'Disney Princesses' have an official coronation ceremony at Disney World (Land? can't remember which). Leia did not have this so while she is a princess character and a part of the Disney franchise, she is not a Disney Princess. (Neither is Elsa, Anna, Moana, and several others.) That being said, it is kinda shitty to throw someone (particularly a small child) out of a party just because their costume doesn't quite match.

Keep in mind that Disney also officially considers Mulan to be a princess. It's a bit tricky if you ask me.

I agree. It's technically wrong, but it's close enough, and regardless, who would kick a child out of a party for something so unimportant? It's extremely heartless to do such a thing.

Technically your daughter isn’t in the wrong since Disney owns Star Wars. This makes Leia a Disney princess.

Um this woman is aware that Disney owns Star Wars and other Lucas material right or is she one of those who believes a little girl needs to be a dainty princess instead of a bamf princess

Bottom line, whether she was in line with the theme or not, kicking her out is a shitty move. But that being said, yeah Disney now owns the franchise, but it's not general knowledge (amongst older moms at least) and it's not what is typically considered a Disney princess (yet). To avoid confusion, it would've probably been nice to give the birthday girl's mom a heads up and check it that was alright as it's reasonable enough to think she was thinking of the generic princesses and is in the end of the day the host of the party.

I'm not a fan of Star Wars and I often forget that Disney even owns it now, but I wouldn't ask someone to take their kid home because of their costume. Were the other kids complaining about your daughter, OP? Or was it just the mother? And did you give in, or tell her that since Disney now owns Star Wars, your daughter is fine? If certain princesses were expected, the invitation should have specified.
