Today, at work, I was talking to a Scottish woman when my coworker and I both told her we were also Scottish. To this she replied, "We Scottish people get around." I then said, "Tell me about it, I'm one of four siblings from my dad, he definitely gets around." She was talking about travel. FML

Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Same thing different taste
You can talk, mate
Today, a customer asked me if I was English, because I was struggling to understand what he was saying. I said yes. He then called me a liar, and said I must be "one of them Polish immigrants." Oh, and he also had a thick Scottish accent. FML
Classic
Today, at work, I casually mentioned I was meeting some friends for dinner. My co-worker's response was, "You have friends?!" FML
Today, I had to go along with my mom to meet some of her old friends from high school. When they asked her about how her life was going, she said she was married, always traveling, no kids, and introduced me as the neighbor's kid she babysits. FML
Today, at work, I was helping someone who really sounded like she had a Boston accent. So, I asked her where she was from. She has never been out of state. Turns out she has a speech impediment. FML
Today, I went to a family reunion with my brother and my mother. She spent quite a while giving a glowing introduction for my brother to one of her cousins. Then, just before walking off, she jerked a thumb in my direction and said, "Oh, yeah, and that's his sister." FML
The walls have ears
Today, while sitting at a table in a coffee shop, I overheard someone on the next table talking about their horrible boss. I joined in, complaining about mine, and going into great detail about what an arsehole he can be. Turns out, I was talking to my boss's sister. FML
Today, talking to my boyfriend about each others families, we noticed we both had an aunt with the same name. After a while of trying to figure things out, we decide to call her. Turns out that we are long distance cousins. FML
Today, while at my friend's house, I noticed her brother had a bit of an accent. I laughingly said "Is it me or does your little brother have an accent?" She stared and replied with "No, he has autism." FML
Leave us alone
Today, a customer asked me if I was my husband's sister. A little flabbergasted, I replied, "No, I'm his wife." He went on to say, "Ah! But surely, you're related? Cousins?" FML
Today, while at my boyfriend's cousin's birthday party, I was hanging around with his sister as I didn't know anyone. She was talking to some friends when one of them asked her, "So, is your brother still going out with that crazy chick?" Her answer was to introduce me. FML

Bagpipes! Haha! I like your train of thought better. Easy mistake. When you think of it, which "people" don't get around. I may be bias 'cause where I live, it's a melting pot of culture! :P

Out of interest OP, were you born in Scotland or are you first/second generation? It's just that over here (I'm from Scotland itself) when an American comes over as a tourist, they always insist that they are Scottish instead of American. lol.

True, are they ashamed of being American? On saying that maybe they say they're Scottish because being Scottish is awesome :)

They should tell you that they're Scottish/American instead. Can you blame them for wanting to honour and hang on to their Scottish roots? No one is a true American except, the natives. If you say-- you're American, it doesn't mean much because the people asking will still want to know from where your ancestors came from.(:

Nobody is a true anything really, all scots have Viking in their blood but we don't go round telling people that we're nordic.

Us Scots don't offend easy, so don't worry! I would have laughed, blow a note on my bagpipe and swan out twirling my ginger hair, eating haggis!

You forgot the whisky, no true scottish stereotype would be caught dead without a drink!

True! I am a cider lass myself though.

If you are four siblings from the same mom, your dad really didn't "get around" at all. I'm surprised you didn't play on the "tight with money" stereotype. I love the Billy Connolly story about how his dad was counting change in his hand when a coin dropped. He bent over to catch it and it hit him in the back of the neck.

If OP and her siblings had the same mom, I'm pretty sure she wouldn't specify that they're her siblings "by her dad". They're most likely half-siblings.
