Today, after several months of eating right, exercising, and weight loss, my mother has yet again arrived at my house, unannounced and with a very sugary cake. She's been doing this most weeks since I lost 50 pounds. FML

Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Same thing different taste
Care and sympathy
Today, after taking vacation time to visit her, my mom told me she was glad I was leaving so she could get back to her diet. I'm prediabetic and have been trying to manage the condition. She ordered dessert at every meal and was the only one in the family who did. FML
Today, I decided to go on a diet to lose some weight before summer. This was followed by the arrival of a giant parcel full of candy from my mother. FML
Classic Mom moment
Today, I went to my parents' house. I recently lost about 30 lbs. My mom hugged me and said, "Aww, you're not my chubby baby girl anymore." She then said she wished I were still fat because she missed it. She's the reason I lost the weight; she used to tease and taunt me. Thanks Mom. FML
Today, I told my mom I was finally going on a diet. She let me know how proud she is of me fighting temptation, by making my favorite cookies and dinner. FML
As a treat
Today, I bought myself a Crumbl cookie as a treat for losing 20lbs. Upon seeing it, my mom screamed at me for cheating on my diet and how I was going to "gain all the weight back" and insisted she eat some of it to "help me out." She left behind a tiny morsel of the cookie with a chocolate chip chunk. FML
Today, I received a box in the mail from my mom which I assumed was a care package. It was a scale to encourage me to lose weight. FML
Today, I woke up early and spent hours baking and icing a three-tier cake for my friend's eighteenth birthday, which is this evening. I just found out my mother threw it in the compost bin because she's on a diet and it was "tempting" her. FML
Today, my co-worker offered me sweets, then chocolate and then biscuits. Repeatedly. She knows I'm trying to diet for my wedding. She does this every day. FML
Today, I walked downstairs in a new outfit, after dieting for 3 months, and losing just over 20 pounds. My mom took one look at me and said "You'd better keep going." FML
Today, for Mother's Day, I surprised my Mother with the news I that I'll be visiting in June. The last time we got to visit was 4 years ago, we live 4000 miles apart and it's a very expensive trip. She said, "No, come next June, I want to lose some more weight before seeing you." FML

Doesn't sound like your mom's being very sweet

Maybe she's saying that you need to sweeten up? Don't give her such a frosted response- appreciate her kindness, even if it's Devil's Food!

I understand what you go through. I lost 40 pounds and my mother has tried many times to sabotage my efforts. When I am visiting, she'd cook greasy food like chips, even if I always say that I will pay for and make my own meals, is pushing me to eat sweet treats, tries to make me fall in my old lazy habits by saying that I don't need to go work out, etc. I just refuse point blank to eat what she wants me to eat and don't listen when she tries to prevent me from doing sports. Keep going, I know it's not easy but you have done the hardest part. Be proud of yourself.

Maybe she was jealous, wanted to look good beside you or...... She thought you looked perfect the way you were or maybe lost a little too much and wanted her perfect girl back.

stay stopping by her house unannounced with salad and salmon... and casually mention how you wish she'd bring things like that when she came over

My friend does this. I was 100lbs overweight (due to a medication change). After dieting and exercise I lost the weight, but she's convinced I'm anorexic and every time I see her she's made a huge (mouth-watering/diabetes inducing) dessert and flips if I don't indulge. My family on the other hand will invite me over and count the number of lettuce leaves I get in my salad :P

Some people seem to like to sabotage others' efforts. You've no doubt already voiced your opinion, so its time to come down a bit harder. Tell he if she wants to come in, the cake stays in the car. You don't have to put up with this nonsense, even from your mother. After all, she's deliberately trying to cause harm to you by pushing you towards unhealthy habits. It's often a dominance issue. My mother tries to control me too but I don't let her. Good luck and maybe by standing up to her, she will realise how unfair her behaviour is.

One thing my PT says, if there are people in your life who are not supporting you with your goals (if they are healthy good goals) then you need to take those people from your life. Tell you mom that if she doesn't stop bringing sugary stuff to your home, then she is not allowed to come at all. Invite her to bring cottage cheese and fresh peaches next time as her "desert treat" that way she can have her sweet without totally ruining your plan. You can't have people in your life that want to make you fail, so make those people realize that your goals are important to you by confronting them and giving them a choice.

Congrats on the weight loss. If it bothers you that much that your mom brings you cake every week. Then talk to her but keep up the great work.
