Today, a soldier in my unit had unknowingly lost a GPS in the woods and my section was sent to go find it. After hours of wading through chest high swamps in 32 degree weather, the GPS was found, thanks to the soldier who lost it. It was in his vest. FML

Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Same thing different taste
Today, after working for 12 hours in the cold rain on muddy terrain, my coordinator drove down a hill and didn't come back. I was stuck in the middle of nowhere, forced to walk two hours uphill back to HQ to find him there. FML
Today, I went for a hike with the local search and rescue volunteer group that I recently joined. I got lost and spent 5 hours wandering aimlessly. FML
Today, the snowblower found my lost phone. FML
Today, while out hiking, my phone slipped out of my pocket. I caught it and gave it to my little cousin, giving her a "special mission" to keep it safe. When we got back to our cars later, I asked her for my phone back. Turns out she left it under a shrub back in the hills so it'd be "safe." FML
Today, I lost my phone during a hike up Mount Washington. Luckily, it was reported to the office, and they called my wife. Too bad we had already been driving for at least four hours. FML
Today, I found a guy getting out of my car with my GPS. He started running and I chased him. We eventually reached a dead end and he gave it back to me. I took it back from him and said, "Sorry..." FML
Today, I finally found my watch after weeks searching for it. It was on my teacher's wrist. FML
Let's offroad!
Today, my GPS led me to a "shortcut" that took me through a winding dirt road in the middle of nowhere. My car got stuck in the mud, and the tow truck driver told me I was the third person he's pulled out this week from the same "shortcut." FML
Sorry Sweaty
Today, I got lost on my way to a wedding and yelled at my phone's GPS for giving bad directions. After 20 minutes of rerouting, I realized I’d accidentally set it to “walking mode.” I arrived 45 minutes late and sweaty in a full suit. FML
Brain freeze
Today, I spent 10 minutes searching for my phone while on a call. Turns out, I had absentmindedly put it in the freezer while grabbing a snack. It was frozen solid, but at least I found it. FML

I can't believe people think this says anything about the state of the military. Do you know how many highly intelligent people do shit like this on occasion? It happens.

Um..... when it is 32 degrees.... doesnt water freeze??? and if so, then how were you chest high in a swamp.... swamps are stagnant bodies of waters thus making them more likely to freeze. and i HIGHLY doubt a whole section would be sent to find someones gps

Swamp water isn't pure water. Therefore, swamp water does not freeze at 32 degrees F. Trust me. I live in the area in question.

you're sadly mistaken. in my experience as a soldier, when any sensitive item comes up missing, commanders tend to think it's better to have as many bodies looking as possible. especially in a sketchy location.

lol this happens so much at my base, if we weren't in the military we'd literally beat the shit out of each other for wasting our collective time.

Haha. I'd suspect that it's going to be his FML more than yours rather shortly, if not already.
