Today, I'm found out I'm pregnant. My husband and I spoke at length about how we were going to handle things, which included him "forbidding" me from having an epidural, because he doesn't want our baby to "come out addicted to drugs." FML
He's not the one pushing a baby out of his vag. Tell him it's your choice. And, sometimes doctors really want people to get them, so that they don't pass out from pain.

Tell him to learn about it first. The medication does not reach the baby and the child cannot get addicted to flippin epidural. Da fuq.

Um, actually, the epidural drugs don't get to the baby. If you don't use an epidural, then an alternative pain management route is IV narcotics. Which go through your blood to the baby. That's all despite the fact that medically administered medicine will NOT leave your baby addicted to ANYTHING. Ignorant people bug me.
Theres a higher chance of you getting paralyzed from the epidural than your baby becoming addicted to the narcotics. Plus the epidural space which is surrounding your spinal cord is separate from our blood stream therefore it wont even get to the baby.. Other forms of narcotics used can cause babies to be born blue from the lack of oxygen that baby gets while in utero.. That's when us nurses have to get your baby breathing again. I chose natural childbirth for all my kids, it's tough but that's what our bodies are meant to do :)
Wow, some people form some very terrible opinions of people. He may be ignorant, but you have to give him credit because he's worried about his child. As many of you have pointed out, the patient gets the final word. Stop being such terrible ass holes to the father because he forbade something in fear for his child, and instead encourage OP to educate her husband and let them decide for themselves.
If epidurals make children addicted to drugs, my body must be magically immune to it. My boyfriend prefers for his future wife to not have epidurals because he wants them to be born, "100% naturally".

I don't see the problem. He's caring for you but doesn't want to admit so is pretending it's bad for the baby. It's really bad for you.
