Why is everyone assuming OP is a man and that the ex is a girl? It could be switched or same-sex. I hope you feel better, unless you deserved it (for like cheating or something).

As horrific as cheating is, it would not justify someone stabbing someone else.

If you really justify stabbing for anything other than self defence, then you should to get a psych evaluation. Stabbing is assault, attempted murder, or murder, depending on how much damage is done. Cheating hurts mainly feelings. Stabbing does a whole lot more damage than that.

They may not even think OP is a guy when they say 'he'. It's very common for people to say he when there is no indication of gender since English doesn't have a separate singular pronoun specifically for it. Also, cheating is not a valid reason to physically attack someone. You can't just stab someone who hurt your feelings. Self-defense is the only way stabbing someone can be justified.
