Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Today, I went to gather the laundry out of the dryer. My daughter had seen my wife put bleach in the washer, so she decided that honey in the dryer would make the clothes smell sweet. She wasn't wrong, but now I have a giant ball of sticky socks and underwear. FML
Today, there was a laundry basket of my clothes sitting in my room. My dad asked me if they were clean or not. When I said I didn't know, he picked up a piece of my clothing, sniffed it, and said it smelled fine. That piece of clothing just so happened to be my underwear. FML
Today, I did laundry at a laundromat for the first time. I then folded everything on the table, until an old man tapped my shoulder and said, “Uh, those are my socks.” I'd neatly folded his entire load of laundry. He took it back without a word. FML
Today, I found the missing sock from my laundry inside the sleeve of a hoodie I’d already worn twice. I now know where my laundry goes to hide from me. FML
Today, I got into an argument, followed by the silent treatment from my boyfriend, because I told him that he should change his underwear daily. FML
Today, my wife complained that the coffee grounds I swept into the sink grossed her out. Yesterday, I removed several panty-liners from her soiled underwear before doing the laundry. FML
Today, my sister confessed that when she runs out of clean underwear, she uses mine. That wouldn't be so bad if she didn't also put it back in my dresser afterwards so I wouldn't notice. FML
Today, I decided to be nice and do the laundry for the whole family. Apparently, all the guys in the family have skid marks on both the back AND THE FRONT of their underwear. FML
Today, I saw a hot guy at the laundromat. Wanting an excuse to talk to him, I tossed a pair of my red underwear into his washer. What I didn't realize was that he was washing his whites. Thanks to me, he now has an entire load of pink shirts and boxers. FML
Today, I took my laundry out of the washing machine and noticed one of my socks was missing. I checked the drum, the floor, and the laundry basket. I eventually found it inside the sleeve of the hoodie I'd been wearing while loading the machine. FML

What's wrong with that? Maybe he has sweaty feet or is worried about fungus. Sounds pretty legit to me.

I think it’s smart. What about the dead skin and everything else his feet touch before he puts his socks on gets caught in there.

You know that big hole at the top of a sock, the one you put your foot in? I don't think it magically prevents water and detergent from entering the sock once it's in a washing machine.

Or the fact that unless he wears waterproof mattress pads for socks; clothing in itself is porous.

What about his boxers?

That is the dirtier surface. I'd imagine the outer surface would get more sloshing action than the inner.

And? Inside or right-side out, they get clean. That’s all that matters. Why is this an fml for you? And his logic holds up. You turn jeans and some shirts inside out to protect the color/designs, which implies whatever’s turned out gets sloshed more. Why wouldn’t you want the better clean for the side of a sock your sweaty feet touch?

The packaging for the work socks I bought specifically say to put them inside out before washing.

Then definitely turn inside out! Sometimes depending on the materials and how they're weaved/layered, inside out will let loose the build-up.

It’s the best way of avoiding any lints in the socks so you don’t have to turn them inside out to get all the lints out before putting them on your feet. Nobody likes the feeling of lints on their toes.

If it upsets you so much, let him do his own laundry.

Sounds legit. I would do it myself if it wasn't a hassle to flip it back in when clean...

i have always turned clothes inside out to wash them. that's where the sweat, odor and dead skin cells are. 🤷♀️
