Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Today, I bailed my brother out of jail for violating a restraining order filed against him by his ex. I dropped him off at the place he told me he was staying at. Turned out it was his ex's house, and now he's in jail again. FML
Today, I had to bail my drunk husband out of jail after he and his best friend tried to steal a police horse from an officer. FML
Today, my ex got arrested for stealing. His new girlfriend texted me asking if I could lend her money to bail him out. FML
Today, I had to bail my husband out from jail for almost killing someone. What happened? He and my sister-in-law were in an grocery store when she spotted his old high school nemesis, who back then was the biggest bully in school. She thought that it would be "exciting" to see what would happen if their paths crossed again. FML
Today, I had to go get my fiancé's car so it wouldn't get impounded after he was arrested at 12 a.m. and charged with a felony. I just got out of prison in March, and we get married next week. FML
Today, the girl my ex-husband cheated on me with, and left me for, called me and asked for money to bail him out of jail. She asked me because I have my own business and I'm financially stable. FML
Today, my now ex-boyfriend called me from jail, expecting me to bail him out. He'd tried to buy a load of booze at the liquor store and came up short by ten cents. The cashier refused to be short-changed, and he figured the only reasonable reaction was to punch her in the face. FML
Today, my husband called me in the middle of the morning. He was in jail and wanted me to bail him out. Not only was he stupid enough to go drunk drag-racing with his buddies, their route took them straight past the front of the local police precinct. FML
Today, my husband's ex-girlfriend is getting a restraining order on him. Turns out, for the past 2 years of our marriage, he has been trying to contact her and ditching work to stalk her. To top it all off, he told me not to come to court with him because he doesn't want her to see he downgraded. FML
Today, I had to bail my husband out of jail. It turns out that in the Black Friday rush, he beat a guy up just so he could get his hands on the last of a heavily-discounted item. The item in question: a toaster. FML

And you did this why? Doesn't seem like your problem to me.

Your ex needs to grow a pair. If his wife finds out on her own she'll be a lot more mad than if he just told her

Why did you feel obligated to/ why did you do it?

At first I thought "wow what a nice person" and I am assuming you are still friends or at least friendly with your ex and that is great. However, the more I thought about it, you are an idiot. 1. You did not HAVE to as he is an ex, a grown up and no longer your responsibility and 2. You just opened yourself up to a whole lot of misery because frankly his wife is going to find out. This isn't a case of something that happened in the past that he can hide, he will most likely have a hearing, need to hire a lawyer and have to pay a fine at the very least. And when his current wife finds out that he turned to his ex-wife for help in this kind of situation she will most likely be hurt, pissed off and majorly suspicious about your relationship. YDI

That's his problem, OP. I'd he's in the in the first place, he has to accept the consequences from his wife. YDI for bailing him out when it's nothing to do with you.

I've got news for you - this kind of thing will keep happening until YOU draw the line and say, no way am I doing that, and don't do it whatever the protests. You are not this person's mother.

Honestly, YDI, unless he was being threatening, or has been threatening / abusive in the past. You don't owe him anything if you're broken up and he has a new wife.

if he was threating her, that would be all the more reason for her to leave his ass in jail.

You "had to"? You didn't have to do anything YDI
