Today, I've been in my old hometown visiting because my sister is having her baby. I scheduled the trip a full week after her due date, and still no baby. We tried everything to start her labor. I had to go back home, and as soon as my plane landed, I got a text saying she just gave birth. FML

Today, after seven years, I finally found out why my sister was mad at me: Because I had to get admitted to give birth on the day she had planned her baby shower, which she didn't inform me about or invite me to. As I stole her thunder by giving birth, being full term 44 weeks and way past my due date. FML
Today, my sister refused to come to the hospital with the rest of my family to visit my new baby. Apparently, I’m an "attention hogging slutbag" because I "chose to go into labor" on her birthday. FML
Today, my mother-in-law told me to "just wait" until she gets home from her trip, because apparently, taking a vacation with her partner is more important than the birth of her first grandchild. Contractions started a few hours ago. Part of me hopes she misses it. FML
Today, I went into labor, and my husband wasn't answering his phone. I called my sister to ask her to drive me to the hospital but she said she'd only do it if I paid her $1000. I had to dial 911, and almost gave birth in my bathroom in process. FML
Today, I agreed to babysit my baby nephew for a week while his parents flew abroad for the MIL’s funeral. I had hoped having a baby around might convince my wife to consider having kids. Nope. She got so sick of the baby, she moved into a hotel until my sister comes home. FML
Today, I went to Seattle with my mom to visit my pregnant sister, only to end up being dragged to a store to buy maternity clothes. The saleswoman apologized to me repeatedly for not having a lounge for the fathers, but congratulated me on the baby. I'm a girl. FML
Today, I gave birth to a baby girl. Where was my husband after the agony finally ended? Standing just outside the room, flirting with a nurse. FML
Today, some old friends came to visit me after I had my first baby a few weeks ago. When the last friend, who has always been rather self-centered, arrived, she immediately announced her own pregnancy and talked of nothing else for the rest of her stay. FML
Today, I went to the hospital to visit my aunt and her newborn baby. The receptionist gave me the room number, and I went and my aunt was in the bathroom so I cuddle the baby, only to find that the woman who came out of the bathroom was a complete stranger. I was holding her baby. FML
Today, I was at the airport to pick up my mother since my baby is due soon. As she arrived, I smiled wide and opened my arms for a hug, but she walked right by me. Apparently, being pregnant makes me unrecognizable. My husband and I had to tell it her was me, her own daughter. FML

I do understand that you have to let your work know you'll be off, but never plan a trip around a babies "Due Date"! It'll not always work as intended, even if its a week after she's due, as babies can be up to two weeks late if she wants to stay natural. Doctors have started to set an induction date a week after her 40 weeks, and that would be the week you'd visit! I hope you get to visit soon, and I hope my info helps anyone else about to plan for a trip!

It'll not always work as intended, even if its a week after she's due, as babies can be up to two weeks late if she wants to stay natural. Doctors have started to set an induction date a week after her 40 weeks, and that would be the week you'd visit! I hope you get to visit soon, and I hope my info helps anyone else about to plan for a trip!

I wrote it as Doctors do Induction using a Pitocin drip (In the hospital), then when there's a date for that, go THAT week! OP wrote as if they tried to induce, most likely at home (Squats, exercises) to make it come naturally. There's no way you'd go into a hospital to be induced and they'd send you home if it didn't work!

Medication to induce doesn't always work, & OP's sister might have refused C-section outside of emergency. Depending on the doctor, it's possible they decided to try again the next day or some other delay. OP doesn't say how long she visited for.

After already having two babies, one which came 9 days late, for my third pregnancy my father said "these days they pretty much know when the baby will come" when trying to plan when to visit. Of course that baby decided to come two weeks early, not even my husband believed I was in labour.

As an aside... while I know SMH means 'shaking my head', for some reason every time I see it my first thought is 'smell my hand'. Yeah, go ahead and downvote me. I probably deserve it for one reason or another. Either way, congrats on OP for (eventually) getting their niece/nephew.
