Today, some people in my class here in New Zealand found out that I'm from Canada, then spent the rest of the period asking if I had a pet moose and whether or not I lived in an igloo. They were completely genuine questions. FML

Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Today, I heard two of my students having a conversation. One asked what state Arizona was in, and the other replied Canada. I teach sixth grade social studies and they weren't joking. FML
Today, while teaching my history class, a girl asked me where North America was. She lives in North America. FML
Today, it was my first day at school in the United States. Being from France, my French accent is really strong. After being made fun of all day, I met someone from Montreal. I was so excited and said, "Parlez-vous Français?" And his response? "HUH?!" FML
Today, I actually had to explain to two of my friends that neither Alaska nor Nebraska are in Canada. I think I need new friends. FML
Today, I moved into my university dorm a week before classes start. Everyone kept giving me weird looks as they watched me move my stuff in. Finally, one of my dorm mates asked me if I knew that school had actually started last week. I didn't. FML
Today, I've been living in Canada for past two years, and my friend from the States came to visit. He was talking about how Canadians are so polite, but I was in total denial, that he didn't know anything. While I was arguing with him, a guy in front of us walked into a pole, then apologized to it. FML
Today, we were taking a bio quiz and I understood the subject, so the people sitting behind me asked me to help them out. Being a kind fellow classmate, I did. When the teacher got suspicious, she asked the class, "How are all of you getting the same answers?" everyone pointed directly at me. FML
Today, my grandson asked how old I am and whether I'd seen Mammoths "for real" when I was a kid. FML
Today, a classmate found out I have a boyfriend. He said, "Really? YOU??" FML
Today, my teacher, who's Irish, called me insensitive and stupid for imitating her accent. I'm Filipino and my parents immigrated to Ireland where I was born, and then we moved to Canada when I was 14. Her response to my explanation? "Bullshit." FML

This is an outrage. Those kinds of questions are patented by America! Stop stealing our thing New Zealand. Don't make us come to Africa!

And you hadn't confirmed? When someone asks me about polar bears and stuff in Poland, of course I confirm. I talk about how we breed and train them and that if you think your cat's shedding is bad you should see the one of a polar bear!

I moved from NZ to Australia when I was in primary school. They thought my accent was hilarious and asked stupid questions. I was the biggest novelty for the first month. I travelled to Canada about 5 years ago and I think that everyone we met was so lovely there. They would ask what it's like in NZ and we thought it was very similar. Please know that not all kiwis are like that.

That happen to me when I moved from Hawaii to the states of the United States. All the questions I was asked made me think if they knew their 50th states or not.
