From beyond
Today, in a drunken, depressed state I thought I heard my deceased mother trying to make contact with me from beyond the grave. It took me a moment to realise that the soft voice was from the music my neighbours were playing. FML

Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Today, I was singing in the shower, not realising the window was open. When I got out, the neighbours were at the front door, loudly arguing with my mother. They were complaining about my awful singing. FML
Today, I heard whimpering while I was in my bedroom. Thinking it was my parents doing something nasty, I let them do it and turned on my music. My parents came home from work and I realised they were never home. I went into the room and saw my dead dog laying on the floor. FML
Today, as usual, my mother had wine when she has the next day off. Three bottles deep, she started talking about an Indian burial ground that haunts the house, and she knows this because they talk to her in her dreams, so she is right. FML
Today, I woke up to an old lady right outside my open window, saying "Hello in there! Are you sleepy?" I was so startled that I answered her. She screamed. Turns out she's my neighbour's elderly mother, didn't know I was in there, and was talking to my cat. FML
Today, I put my headphones on and laid down to relax to some music. I fell asleep, and woke up later to a police officer busting into my house. My neighbor had been knocking on my door, then looked through my window and saw me on my couch, and was convinced I'd died. FML
Today, I was sleeping in my room when I awoke to an unfamiliar female voice in my apartment, followed by a thud. I walked out to find a drunk girl I've never met collapsed in my doorway. After puking all over the place, she had me call her father, who picked her up 10 minutes later. FML
Today, there was a knock on my apartment door. It was the man from next-door, who sarcastically asked if I was alright, because he said he heard me screaming in agony. I was singing. FML
Today, I discovered both how much I really talk to myself when I'm drinking alone and how thin the walls of my apartment are. I heard my own slurred voice coming from my neighbor's apartment. They had recorded me and made a mixtape of some of the more interesting things I had said. FML
Today, I was told by my neighbors that my guitar playing sounded a dying cat. FML
Today, I got a knock on my door at 3 a.m. Turns out, if I ignore my mother long enough, she will assume I have died and will call the cops. FML

You should probably drink a little(or a lot) less.

I'm sorry about your mother, OP. But I hear it isn't uncommon to want to be contacted or given a sign from a dead loved one, drunk or not. Don't feel too bad.

the FML still doesn't answer his question... all it says is the soft voice was playing from the neighbors, jeez people.

I'm I'm the same boat as you. :/ I lost my mommy to cancer 1 year and 9 months ago (it'll be 1 year and 9 months ago at about 9:30pm tonight). She was my only parent and I was her only child. I was holding onto her when she died and I was only 15. Had to go to a psychologist and I was told I probably have PTSD. It was tearing me apart. I would try to sleep and my mommy would show up in my room looking how she did when she was dying. I could barely eat. I could barely sleep. I would have nightmares of it (still do). I still randomly break down over that night. And the breakdowns have me out for at least a week. We're not alone, though. We just have to all help each other. Sorry for your losses, everyone.

This happened to me once.. I was in the shower, heard voices, stumbled out, managed to knock everything that existed in my bathroom in the floor (including the huge cabinet that fell on top of me) only to realize it was the radio I had turned on before getting into the shower.. Yeah I know.. Shame on me.. Also, sorry about your mother..

OP, I am a natural born medium. Your mother was most definitely trying to communicate. Our loved ones often do through music. The warmth you felt around your shoulders at that moment you thought it was Mom, was her putting her arms around you. She wants you to know that she is ok, she loves you, and she desperately wants you to quit drinking. Her life was cut short, she doesn't want the same for you. Pay attention. She sends you little signs to let you know she is around. The poke you think you feel in your right shoulder is her.

Maybe you should go visit her grave.

It's sad that you lost your mom but you shouldn't get that drunk. Actually, you shouldn't get drunk period. Then you wouldn't have to worry about it.
