Don't freak out
Today, I was on a plane and realized that the woman next to me was hiding a hedgehog in a plastic container. I'm severely afraid of hedgehogs but not wanting to give the woman up and get her in trouble, I tried to stay quiet. Which led to me to quietly hyperventilate and pass out on the plane. FML

That has to be the weirdest thing to have a phobia of!

I can't sleep now that I know there are people who don't report hedgehogs on planes.

Plus, it was in a plastic box. I'm scared of spiders, but if someone - other than my brother - was holding one in a box, I wouldn't panic. I wouldn't like it or be entirely comfortable, but hyperventilating? Might require help. You need to be exposed to hedgehogs a bit more...

Not necessarily true. Hedgehogs can be brought on airlines, legally. I have a friend who travels with her hedgehog frequently. They go through security and are allowed to fly. It's only international flights that she doesn't take the hedgie with her, due to varying requirements that other countries have.

What I'm curious to know is why a plastic container? Is she trying to kill it?

If it had spaces for air, it'd probably be fine. One of my best friends has two African Pygmy Hedgehogs (they're SUPER adorable), if she has to transport them to the vet she uses a small cat carrier, but before she got her second one she used to use a very large Tupperware container with big air holes punched in and a soft piece of fleece in the bottom. It's possible that this person had the hedgehog on board legally. Should've asked to switch seats.

#38, I just imagined filling out an expense report to get reimbursed for all of those cotton balls I bought for the company. I'm trembling in a fetal position under my desk and I may have peed myself a little, . . ., ok, a lot!

I'm sorry. Phobias ******* suck, no matter how stupid they may seem. I used to have a fear of balloons as a child/teen, but I seem to have grown out of it. I have a terrifying legitimate fear of ketchup though, and it sucks more than anything. I know where you're coming from. I still get made fun of for it, but my friends and family know better than to come around me with it. :/ FYL.

I have a friend who is afraid of applesauce. It's also pretty weird but it's legit. Stay strong.

Has anyone considered she might not have been smuggling it? I've been allowed to take my cats in the cabin before and I've seen countless numbers of small dogs on flights. I'm sure other animals would be allowed if correctly kept restrained. Given the current security measures, I'd reckon it would be rather difficult to smuggle a hedgehog without being noticed.

Hedgehogs are cute though lol. Anyways I guess that's one fear you overcame.
