Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Today, my boyfriend of 4 years proposed to me. I said yes and he gave me an engagement ring. He immediately went to call his mom to tell her the happy news. After the phone call, he asked if he could return the ring because his mom needed money. FML
Today, my almost-mother-in-law demanded I give my engagement ring back because it was originally her great-grandmother's, and she has now decided she wants it to go to her youngest son’s fiancée instead. My fiancé agreed and told me he’d just buy me another. He doesn’t get why I’m so upset either. FML
Today, my boyfriend proposed with the perfect ring, restaurant, flowers, and champagne. He’s never been this well prepared for anything in his life, so he admitted that my mother planned the whole thing and forced him to propose, even though neither of us want to get married. She even bought the ring. FML
Today, I'm going to be helping the love of my life pick out an engagement ring for my cousin. FML
Today, I found out my boyfriend was going to propose. He'd bought me a beautiful white gold ring that I never got to see. His estranged mom stole the ring. FML
Today, my boyfriend told me he's prepared to commit to marriage, but only if I buy my own ring and tell everyone he surprised me with it. FML
Today, my fiancé won't tell people we're engaged because his mother doesn't approve, and he doesn't want to upset her. FML
Today, I decided I would tell my mom I'm not going to marry my fiancé because it just didn't feel right, only to walk into my own surprise engagement party. FML
Today, my fiancé pawned off my engagement ring so he could buy himself a PS4. FML
Today, I found out that my boyfriend asked me to marry him because he could get a tax cut from buying the ring. All of this happened in front of his mother. FML

Tell him maybe he should marry his mom. If he aggrees, that gives you the perfect chance to find someone that's not so much of a "momma's boy"

Tell Oedipus there that he doesn't have to buy his mom an engagement ring because you're giving yours back to him. I'm really hoping that he's just really stupid and not actually desperate to have his mom involved in every part of his life.

Just wait, she will want a matching wedding dress too. Put your foot down on this now op, or you will regret!

I don't understand this. Maybe OPs mom was an unmarried mother who never went through the whole marriage experience and wants to make up for it now?? What's next? He'll take her on the honeymoon? Have sex with her on the honeymoon, so she wont feel left out? Honey, if she doesn't want to be left out, she needs to be kicked right out.

Get out while you can I'm serious. I had pretty much the same problem with my son's father's mom. My son is turning one on the 26th if this month and I tried to plan his party but his mom just decided we were going to have his party at her house on Thanksgiving. If I even try to say anything she acts like I'm ungrateful. LEAVE.

UnIt's your child tell her to **** off and either show up at the party you throw or don't show up, up to her... Don't let her control anything once you start it will never stop

if I do that then he wont have anyone at his party because I don't have a lot of family where I live and most of my friends don't have children. she's done this since the day he was born.

I had to respond to this one too... If there's nobody at his party, that is fine. Girl, get out and make some friends, put him in a daycare class and spend the day there with him meeting other parents as they drop off and pick up. Arrange play dates, and bring them to the party. Better yet, have the party there at a local daycare as a way to let your little one meet all these new friends, and let him go a few times here and there to keep those friends. You have nobody to blame but yourself if you let this grandma that you have NO OBLIGATION TOWARDS ruin this for you. Much better to have just the two of you enjoying time together than to let him feel that grandma is his real mother. And believe me that is her goal.
