Today, I decided I would tell my mom I'm not going to marry my fiancé because it just didn't feel right, only to walk into my own surprise engagement party. FML

Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Same thing different taste
Today, I discovered my fiancé has been telling everyone else we are just friends, yet last night he wanted me to go with him to pick up my engagement ring. I'm supposing the wedding will be a surprise to everyone. FML
Bad timing
Today, my boyfriend invited me over to his house. I was planning on breaking up with him while at his house. Turns out, it was a proposal party. I'm now engaged because it would've been rude to say no in front of his family that had flown in. FML
Apron strings
Today, my fiancé told me he wants to buy an engagement ring for his mother, so that she doesn't feel left out. FML
Today, my fiancé, his mother, my father and I went out to celebrate my birthday and our recent engagement. After dinner, my father and future mother-in-law revealed to us that they had secretly been dating and were talking about also getting married. Anybody want cake? FML
Who TF Did I (almost) Marry?
Today, I was supposed to get married. I called it off only 20 minutes before the ceremony was supposed to begin because I saw my fiance punch his own mother in the face. FML
WTF?
Today, I went to my fiancé's mother's funeral. His step-sister proudly announced that she's pregnant with his baby and they are engaged. FML
Really? In 2022?
Today, I was busy going over wedding plans with my fiancé, when my mother called. Apparently, she wants me to "drop the joke" about this "fake engagement", because she was under the impression I was only dating a white guy to piss her and dad off, and was now getting carried away with it. FML
Today, my fiancé won't tell people we're engaged because his mother doesn't approve, and he doesn't want to upset her. FML
Today, my mother excitedly jumped up and down, announcing that one of her sweet younger coworkers got engaged. I wished she'd had the same reaction to my engagement when I announced it to her a few days earlier. FML
Today, I got engaged to the most wonderful man in the world. I excitedly called my mom to tell her the great news, thinking she'd be excited too. Her only response? "Oh." FML

Sounds like a perfect time to tell them you're calling the thing off.

So what? That doesn't mean he can't call the thing of. :/

#35 meant that since OP is a guy, and that since he used the term fiancé instead fiancée, OP is gay. I don't see how this is relevant.

maybe you shouldn't have said yes.

That sucks, but YDI. You should have realized that "it didn't feel right" when he proposed, and therefore should never have said yes.

Or the fiancé could have been buttering OP up for months to make sure they would say yes, then afterwards turned into the true dick that he/she was. You never know what actually happened but if it didn't feel right, it would have come out eventually. Better now than later.

or the OP is a man.

I would agree with the others saying you shouldn't have said yes in the first place, but..I'm sure we've all had moments where we're so flattered our minds are clouded. I'm sure this person was in the same place! Hey, it's just a good thing you're calling it off now, rather than after a marriage, where a break-up is a lot messier and expensive.

WTF?? She couldn't change her mind after getting engaged? Maybe HE changed. At least she didn't wait until they got to the altar to figure out it wasn't going to work...or worse, after! Anyway, I'm sure your mom wants you to be happy and will support you either way.

don't be a dumb *****. What doesn't feel right? If you are looking for that fairy tale it's not gonna happen. you guys shouldn't have agreed on getting engaged if you want to be dumb. think how much time of your fiance you wasted.

People do start to change after they get comfortable and they think that they can treat the person like crap once they're engaged/married. If the fiancé turned into an asshat after getting engaged, OP has every right to walk out.

It's a scary thing, so yeah, I understand why you're scared. So don't stress it. Just go with what your heart tells you, and you'll be fine. Don't take the other comments all that bad. Sometimes you're not sure. Just remember to make the right decision as there are no "replay" button in life... you only get one chance at it.
